Real Off-Road Vehicle Comes in for Service

So my friend Adam has a sweet FJ with some tasteful and nice add-ons, especially inside. It's a 2007 with just a tick under 100k on the clock and it's truly an off-road truck he takes into the woods. Now as we approach winter his baby needs some love and when I say love I mean it. That last AMG Benz I just did has nothing in terms of paint defects when compared to an FJ that has battled tree roots with it's door and pushed anything that grows out of the way.

The initial goal here was to stay on-budget but also provide great results. Looking at things more closely it really wasn't much in the way of additional work to go from good to great so Adam pulled the trigger and as of this morning I'm off and running.

We've all heard the phrase I'm likely mis-quoting but "aim for perfection and settle for excellence" and that's what the new goal is....perfection but in hopes that at the worse case, excellence is what is produced.

I think we're on target! The color is an outstanding tri-color black metallic. Although it would barely show through if at all prior to the cleanup.

Impressive and I imagine your friend was impressed and blown away. The modern FJ is going to be collectible vehicle. Nice restoration and glad your friend is using it as intended.

As noted, it's a 2007 but now she looks brand new. Certainly not 9 years old. Hopefully I'll get some decent pics Sunday. Going to be cloudy and cold but hopefully not raining. Until then, here are a couple from the garage as she's sleeping for the night.

The Eggshell White roof is single stage paint. Now it's few shades lighter

Love the microfiber pads as well, which did you go with?

I use the Griot's Garage ones. As per Mike's recent posts the will tend to "walk" a bit more than foam backed ones from Lake Country on the Flex 3401, but I have had 6 of them for a while and am not going to replace them just yet as they work fine for me.

They just had a little one so as he noted, not for a while. Seems to be putting his hobby aside for a bit thus why he wanted to get it turned into a Mall Crawler :)

I'd be recommending he get some excel PPF fitted as he won't have too many more shots at that level of correction with factory Toyota clear..

Nice work though, Toyota paint may be thin but it does correct nicely..

Agree. Given it's age though I think he's going to just ride it out. Thankfully the scratches weren't that deep. They look worse than they were. Like you said, it corrected nicely but thickness wise, you're correct in that with so many scratches all over, everyone needs to be more careful.
