Just got a bottle of Collinate 845. Will use the red hybrid Lake County pad. Prior threads recommend putting 4 nickel sized drops of Collinate on the edge of pad. Will this amount of Collinate cover the whole door (Highlander) or should I split it up into 16"x16" sections? After finishing a section, do I reapply another 4 nickel sized drops to the pad?

thanks!

your going to want to look at what is being left on the paint, if it is splotchy then you need more product, id test out your areas to see what size is good before you start to thin out.

yes after each section you will add more product and repeat

I would put the product towards the center of the pad. It's going to move towards the edges on it's own as the pad spins. Four nickles is a lot. I would do smaller amounts as 845 is very thin in consistency and you want to apply it to where it's barely noticeable on the paint or removal will be more difficult. I do one panel at a time then remove. You don't need to worry about smal sections as you're only spreading product not working it. reapply only an amount needed to keep the product really thin when applying.

I used the LC red 3" first time with DA.

Only used a very small amount (3 small lines 3" long in X patternish).

That did the roof on my Grand Prix.

Put 3 pea size drops (very runny so not like polishes).

That did the hood and trunk.

Second time I used the ThinPro 3" red and used even less product per panel.

As part of the test I wanted to make sure I was getting complete coverage so I checked from numerous angles for film.

I even pressed the pad against the glass just to see if there was product on the pad (there was).

I think the thinner pads kept more product on the surface.

A little goes a very long way.

Great advice here already from everyone.

I'm one of those types who will apply 845 whole car and then go back to buff it out. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

As for the amount, I too start out with four pea-sized drops. On a fresh pad that will get me at least a door panel or half of a large hood. I've found that as I got to the end of the job I'm using steadily less product on the pad since it's absorbing more. On several occasions I've found I don't need to add any product at all when going over the last panel or two.

845 is awesome. If not mentioned already warm the way in hot water our out in the sun first. Best advise is a little goes a long long way. I can almost guarantee the first time you use it you'll put it on too thick which makes it more difficult to remove. Using a polisher is my preferred way to go. I usually wax a couple panels then remove it but there isn't a right or wrong way.
