Have a brand new Tacoma that I ran through some unmarked asphalt sealant. I removed the sealant with tar remover but it left a residue that will not wash off. Body shop said it had to be buffed as they tried claybar first with no result. I watched him buff a small section with a drill and he mentioned he used a 3k and 2k grit pad to remove. What items do I need to accomplish this myself. Thanks in advance

Many have recommended and I used Tarminator from autozone/O'Reillys for mine which was much worse. It worked. But let it sit on longer than the labeled 60 seconds.

The tar came off, just not the residue.

Yes, still try the tarminator. Mine was the same thing. Others have also recommended Tar X but don't put it on any of the protective clear film if you have any.

Tar X and then maybe a light finishing polish afterwards.

Tar-X and rinse should remove tar. I'm not sure what type of "residue" would remain. I've done this on a white car with no residue.

As mentioned, pick up some CarPro Tar-X and re accomplish the task. Then follow up with a polishing or compounding session if needed.

Could also try a chemical paint cleaner like Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion. Might do nothing, but if it can remove paint transfer (which polishing does not) it may also help to remove the residue you are having difficulty with. Least aggressive method first right? Worth a shot IMHO before compounding...

Gas wouldn't take my stain/transfer off either.

Since when does polishing not take off paint transfer?

Carpro tar x was a bust. Guess off to being buffed.
