Tried using this on a sapphire black 08 BMW 650i.

I didnt use a cutting compound, just polish to cut. Didnt do much at all to the swirls. Any suggestions?

Assume you are in Oz mate..

If you are near the gold coast PM me drop buy and we can try a bunch of products and see what works..

My first suggestion would be foamed wool on the rotary (I have same rotary..) and the same compound...
If no joy then perhaps something like scholl s3 or s2, ad if no joy some Juice super c SMAT compound..

To make progress on my mercs I now go straight to foamed wool and the S3, and if its more severe correction the Super C..

Cutting foam pads do almost nothing on the harder paints I have encountered...

I know a little bit about '08 BMW BSM, as I a 2008 M Roadster in BSM.

One point I'd like to make is, my car was painted in Spartanburg GA - so it has "regular" paint. The 6 series has "ceramic" paint - which may be a bit harder - but in general, BSM is pretty forgiving to work on.

Those swirls don't look too bad, really any quality compound should work. I would use regular compound pads, not Rupes pads on that machine though.

If you are looking for suggestions, the Wolfgang compound is very good.

What we are looking at in the pic may even be micro marring from your procedure... You will have to figure out if you are looking at original defects or compound haze after you compound to know what is going on and what step to take next.

Or choose a rupes polish or compound with those pads.

Its not your pad, you need a more aggressive cutting compound. UC is more akin to a medium polish. Get something decent.

I have finished flawless with that Rupes pad on plenty black Bmw paint. Its not the pad, you need something more aggressive from a compound side, AG has plenty options almost all good. You can then go to a milder pad and finishing polish, again plenty options there too.

Compound and pad then technique once you are all over those then the machine may be a constraint....

Try the newly realeased sonax cut and polish. We at autogeek did a horrific swirled out mustang by caveman compound and a dirty wool pad from a painter.I enjoy working on horrific stuff like that.Mike introduced this product last nigh, with a 3401 with a orange foam pad we knocked it out in a onestep. Then we applied sonax pnsheild.follow the thread today if Mike is able to post pics this stuff is unbelievable. It has a cut of 5'amd a polish of 5.on the BMW you can use sonax with a polishing pad or alternate the cut by different pads.
