2006 Prius with gray metallic paint. Has some glue like substance on the metal hatch near the license plate and on the adjacent plastic bumper. No idea what it is or how long it's been there.

APC had no effect. Degreaser had no effect. Goo Gone had very little effect.

Any suggestions?

Almost looks like tree sap. Have you tried a dedicated tar remover?

Does sap dry almost white like that? Would it drip down like that? The drips are why I thought it was something like glue.

Have not tried a tar remover. Is TarX the best one?

Sap can and will drip like that in a hot environment. If it has been on there a long time it could turn whitish looking. Try some IPA straight if it is sap. May take a little work to get off though if it has been on there a while.

That or Stoners Tarminator. You could also try WD40.

I've had pretty good luck with 3M general purpose adhesive remover.

Isopropyl alcohol had no real effect.

Sap will etch quickly on that rear bumper,so I wouldn wait to remove.

Use some lacquer thinner and be done with it in 10 seconds.

Y'all going to laugh...but my grandma told me dampen a bounce sheet and work it on the sap and to my surprise....worked like a charm!

Tried a generic fabric softener sheet; didn't help.

Tried Magic Eraser; didn't help.

Think it's likely glue and not sap. Comes down straight from license plate area, as if something had been glued into place and the glue ran.

Douse it with some hairspray, then a damp microfiber over the affected area for 15 minutes making sure you have plenty of hairspray on the defect.may work or may not.If it's crazy glue the chances are that it ruined the paint.
