This is my first time post and a long time problem, my car, a 3000GT, has what I'm assuming is spots of clearcoat around the edges. Lens cleaners/polishers won't touch it and I been afraid to try lacquer thinner thinking it might damage the lenses even more. I don't know how they ended up with clearcoat on them but I would like to know how to get it off. Any ideas?

Most headlights have some sort "clear coating" that is applied when they made. Typically the coating degrades and wears off leaving some around the edges and certain spots that don't see as much abuse.

If this is the case, then you will need to sand the rest of it off, and reapply a coating of some sort to prevent further degradation.

With it being older, it may have been previously sanded and recoated with a clear coat. It doesn't really change anything other than it may be a little thicker.
