Pictures: 1993 Ford Explorer Extreme Makeover (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/pictures-thursday-night-detailing-classes/104169-pictures-1993-ford-explorer-extreme-makeover.html)

My co-worker Brett recently purchased a low mileage 1993 Ford Explorer in excellent mechanical condition but the exterior was looking pretty tatty....

Here's some more pictures of the current condition of this Ford Explorer...

The first thing we did was use a new product to be introduced next week...

Next we used the McKee's 37 Foam Gun with the McKee's 37 Xtreme Foam Formula Shampoo plus clay mitts to thoroughly wash this Ford using the techniques I teach for The Aggressive Method for washing a car.

Because this is a daily driver, we put into practice, one of the topics I teach at my 3-day Competition Ready Detailing Classes called,

High Quality Production Detailing

This type of detailing is all about keeping the process simple and fast while turning out high quality results. For this project we used McKee's 37 360 which is an AIO or All-in-One also commonly called a Cleaner/Wax. It will clean, polish and protect in one step.

We used this with the easiest tool there is to learn how to use and master, the Porter Cable 7424XP with simple Lake Country 5.5" white foam polishing pads. It doesn't get any easier, simpler or safer than this...

Test Spot and Demonstration

We had a LOT of new people at our class tonight and many of them had never machine polished with a dual action polisher. After explaining and showing how to use the Porter Cable and how to do a Test Spot I turned them loose to let the magic happen.

Everyone also had the chance to put The Belt into good use!

The Beauty Shots!

And here are the results from a one-step cleaner/wax applied using only a soft foam polishing pad on a Porter Cable 7424XP

Amazing transformation especially with an AIO!

Thanks for the well documented process Mike!

What products did you use to restore the black trim in the window sills? Did you also polish it with 360 or use a trim product?

Wow! This 1993 Ford Explorer looks amazing now. The McKee's 37 360 sure did a great job correcting, cleaning and sealing the paint surface. I'm sure Brett is extremely happy with these results.

Can't add much - other than I was wrenching for Ford when these came out.

Wonder if it's single stage ? (Didn't read the whole thread - so dunno if it was addressed).

One thing I can add - is the 4L V6 engine in these things was notorious for valve cover & intake manifold gasket leaks. I replaced so many of them... Something about the O.E. gaskets being made in Germany at the time and they were not right.

Curious if the engine is an oily mess from valve cover leaks - or if the prior owner had it repaired? They pretty much all leaked from this vintage - so if it's clean it prolly was previously fixed.

Engine compartment was surprisingly clean.I grabbed some white compound (That was all that was close) and could`nt tell if it was SS.I got caught up talking to old friends and never went back to see the spent white LC pads with the McKee`s 360 pinkish AIO.The one question I wanted to answer and ended up forgetting all about it.Car had no sign of CC failure or peeling on damaged areas.

Nice work gang! You guys really transformed that old Explorer.

Hard to believe it is the same vehicle after the transformation.

Thanks for sharing.
