I was using my brand new jeweling wax on my car today, and halfway through my hood I noticed my buffer becoming very unsettled. I stopped polishing, and noticed my pad was off center, and very hot. I was using uro-tec pads, which never get very hot at all in my experience. I carefully took the pad off and noticed the velcro on my BP had melted and the plate was unusually hot.

I hope my GG6" isn't the problem, but once it cools down I'm going to go examine it and try it out with my 6" BP and pad to make sure the machine is alright. If anyone has experienced something similar I would greatly appreciate your input on the situation.

But, now I need a new 5" BP(after well over 100 hours of use), and I was wondering if anyone has used the BOSS BP on a GG6"? It says for use specifically on the BOSS 15 and 21, but I don't see why I could't use it on my GG6"?

The BOSS backing plates are specific to the G21/G15 only. Here's a picture I took of my BOSS BP:

As you can see, the BOSS backing plate doesn't have a screw built in.. It only has a recessed hole with another hole in the center for a screw to pass through.

A screw is used to screw into the polisher's spindle to hold the BP in place. Here's a picture I took:

The traditional DA backing plates have a screw mounted directly on the backing plate as shown below:

Hope this helps.

Griots has an excellent 5" Vented backing plate just for the GG6.

Grabbed a standard 5" BP, hopefully it comes quickly.

If anyone has had an experience similar to what I had, please give me some insight on whether you think I have a machine problem or not!

I looked at this, but asked about the BOSS plate since it was a few bucks less.

I ended up going with a standard 5" BP for the GG6" since I plan on upgrading to either a long throw or forced rotation machine sometime this year and just need something that will get me through at least until then when I can designate my GG6" for 3" work
