We recently worked on this beautiful 2013 Mustang California.

The owner had the vehicle previously detailed, which left it riddled with swirls and rotary holograms. Being an overall large vehicle enthusiast, the owner was looking to have at least 80% of the defects removed from the vehicle, while adding a good layer of protection. We opted for the CQuartz UK/Classic combo. This is essentially laying a base of CQUK, followed by a coat of CQ Classic. This was preceded by CarPro Essence polish & base.

Tools Used:
Rupes 15 MKll
Rupes BigFoot iBrid (with various pads, DA/rotary, polishes)
Meguiars MF cutting
B&S Yellow Euro (primary)
B&S Orange Euro
CarPro Gloss Pads
CarPro Suede
CarPro BOA
Microfiber Madness Incredimitt (x2)
Various others

Products Used:
OBSSSSD Auto Shampoo
OBSSSSD Clay Bar, Medium (w/ their clay lube)
IronX, TarX
Sonax EX 04-06
CarPro Essence
CQUK
CQ Classic
OBSSSSD Tire Satin
Solution Finish Trim

Time Required: 14 hours total. There was PPF on some areas of the vehicle, which lessened the the overall job time.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff. Didn't bother mentioning some of the smaller tools, brushes, etc.
Forgive my lack of proper photos - I had broken my camera, and was snapping what I could, when I could! Some with just my phone.

Below we can see some of the before shots:

Here are a few "process" shots during the wash. OBSSSSD Auto Shampoo was used in both the foam cannon, and during the physical wash. Definitely recommend trying it.

Here we can see a few quick paint before/after shots. Again, my apologies on the lack of decent shots!!

I ended up primarily using the 15 MKll with some B&S Yellow Euro pads. Just what I had on me, but it worked great to get out a good
chunk of the primary damage on the vehicle.

Not reflected in these photos, but this was followed by CarPro Essence with their Gloss pads - which has been my 'go-to' way of adding
exceptional gloss and refinement to most UK/Classic CQuartz jobs.

And finally, just a couple final shots. Only edited because they were photos from my phone, LOL

Interesting That you layer cquartz classic over Uk, never heard of anyone doing that. Whats the reasoning behind it?

It's something not new, but not well known to do, either.

I actually was inspired to do this from another CQF Installer, who has been laying them this way for quite a while.

Without going into too much detail, here's the basics of why:

CQUK does not contain any Ti02, but more pure Si02 than Classic. This leads to, what is believed to be, a more durable coating with increased hardness as compared to Classic. It also has a more noticeable 'darkening' effect on paint, which doesn't always emphasize metallic finishes as well as Classic would (but still looks incredible)

CQ Classic has Ti02 in it, which really helps that metallic flake pop (among other benefits). Also, it is much more 'slick' than CQUK, which tends to be a bit more grabby. It should be noted that the slickness has absolutely nothing to do with the performance of the coating, but we all know customers look for that slick feel.

Both are great products, and with the latest revision of CQ Classic, the durability is supposed to match up with UK now.

I've done this combo a few times now, and really liked it. Either will last years on its own, but layering them gives a much more unique finish. Almost like the UK deepens / darkens the paint, but the the Classic brings out the POP in metallic flake, bright colors, etc. Sort of like photoshop hacking a picture with multiple tools (hue/saturation and brightness), vs just one tool.

Very nice work Tyler. That blue paint really glows.

Thanks for explaining the layering of the two coatings.

Thank you for taking the time to share.

In that last pic, the reflections look almost surreal (I like it) :props:
