Hey guys,

I would like to install chrome lettering on my car, but can't really find anything to give me a guide line. I'm not really sure how to keep the correct spacing and make sure I'm going straight when I put these on. I wish it was something that came in a holder that I could just place and then pull the "holder" thing away leaving me a perfect decal, but I'm not so sure. I'm not even sure how to get the orientation correctly so they're in the proper place on same sides....

Car is a '11 Benz CL550. I want to add the "V8 Biturbo" badging on the fenders like the AMG models (yes the car has a TT V8, so no fooling anyone here lol)

Any ideas on how to do this the right way? Guide me in the right direction?

I'd hate to take it somewhere and them charge me an hour labor for a 20 minute job which can be anywhere from 100 to 200 dollars around here lol

and will be going on my car in this location -

This is how the AMG model is.

I'm thinking it would be very easy if I had a mold so all the letters stay properly oriented and spaced. Then I thought about getting some play doh (or something like that) and using that as a mold. I put that on the car, then everything will stay. However, I'll have to make sure I line it up right and place it right too!

Use a straight edge ruler and put them face down in the sticky side of thick duct tape. Then install your 3m double sided tape to the letters and your good to go. FYI most body shops would do this pretty cheap.

Maybe I'll just ask a reputable body shop and see what they wanna charge me.

That's what I would suggest, but maybe masking tape would be a little friendlier to use. And don't put them face down on the tape though. Put the tape on the emblems that you have laid out already against the straight edge.

Get a piece of 2" painters or masking tape and just put a piece right under and in line with that body line. You can keep trying until you get it where it's nice and inline with it. Then line up your decal with the bottom of the tape. As far as left to right goes, that should be easy enough to eyeball the distance from the forward edge of the door.

if they have 2 sided tape on the back already I would put tape over the front of them to "hold them in place" then put a masking tape line on the car where I want it level and lined up correctly. Then just transfer the letters to the car.
