Just moved into a shop and it has those yellow sodium lights. I need something conducive to detailing. Thinking about the new LED lights, but not sure of the light temp (4K vs 5K)

Or just save my money and go with the tried and true fluorescent.

Opinions?

I remember when I opened my shop twenty five years ago. Had almost the same question. Go with white walls and ceiling fluorescent lamps. If you have a decent floor go with an epoxy light grey floor. You will get a lot of reflective light. Here is a picture of one side of my shop. 48789

1000 bulbs.com has led fixtures and tubes. 5000k works great. Save me $100 a month over fluorescent tubes.

Those look like an awesome deal. I'm ordering them up myself now. Can't wait to get more light on the walls.

Its been talked about before plenty of times. 5000k is the way to go.

I've got a ton of these on the walls and ceiling of my shop:
4? Linkable LED Shop Light with Pull Chain 2-pack (http://www.costco.com/4%E2%80%99-Linkable-LED-Shop-Light-with-Pull-Chain-2-pack.product.100284402.html)

Daisy chaining made for an easy installation. Love the LED over florescent I had.

Go Home Depot and get the Philips LEDs that are plug and play to regular T8 fixtures. Theyre 10 a pop at 5000k temps. They got 2 versions, a 1700 and 2100 lumen one. Go for the 2100.

Since AG doesnt sell LED lights for shops, it should be okay to link.
Philips 4 ft. T8 17-Watt Daylight Linear LED Light Bulb 456608 at The Home Depot - Mobile (http://m.homedepot.com/p/Philips-4-ft-T8-17-Watt-Daylight-Linear-LED-Light-Bulb-456608/206278132)

If you want to be super cheap, buy a bunch of gift cards at a discount from people, then buy the lifhts. Plus aince is Home Depot, tou can return it if it fails in like the first 30 days.

So I have two types of lighting in my shop. I have T5 5000k ballasts (15 in total) For my main garage space for general lighting.

These are not ideal for SWIRLS, but are good for over all lighting. We still use an under hood light for interiors but for over all exterior lighting.

We also have a set up polishing bay with natural daylight LED track lights:

I'll still typically black out the shop and walk a car with a LED pen light upon completion to make sure everything came out correctly on full correction jobs.
