I have 2 friends that have a F-150 & super duty 250. Both trucks are black & 8-9 years old. Both were pre owned and looked to be in good shape when they got them. Both have what I can describe as white blotches on the hood & roof, where direct sun is most prevalent. I offered to try and remove that from the paint but I'm not really sure what I'm getting myself into. I'm not going to charge them to do it but I don't want to ruin their paint either. Has anyone else seen this issue with the Ford black? I don't know how to post pics on here or I would have. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Sounds like clear failure. Pictures would be awesome

It doesn't look like rust,I'm guessing sun damage. I haven't figured how to post pics,I'm sure it's not that hard but I haven't done it yet.

Clearcoat promblem is easily diagnosed, don't waste your time with pics.

Ok,if it is the clear coat, what would my course of action be? I would still like to find out how to post pics.

Repaint is the only way to fix it. I have a friend who has a 03 Red F-150 and even though he took care of it same thing happeneded. he just had the whole truck repainted last year.

You could make it worse in your friends eyes as they most likely have no idea about paint and clear coat failure. If you screw it up they will blame you. I'd pass on it.

For the roof panel on gloss black trucks if it is clear coat failure I'd polish it and apply a gloss black wrap...
Cheap fix good for 5yrs...
