I have a Meguires Orbital Polisher....and my Lake Country pads will not stay attached. As I'm polishing...they come lose and get out of balance. If I continue buffing / polishing, they will actually come lose and fly off the polisher.

Can I not use Lake Country pads on a Meguires polisher?

There's different types of hooks and different types of loops.

I believe Meguiar's uses "micro-hooks" for their backing plates and matching loop material for their pads.

So "yes" it's possible other brands of pads my not have the attachment strength to Meguiar's backing plates.

For what it's worth... I cover the topic of hook and loop on page 54 of my how-to book,

The Complete Guide to a Show Car Shine (http://www.autogeek.net/detailing-books.html)

Basically, after explaining pretty much everything you need to know about hook and loop used for pads and backing plates I make the recommendation to buy your backing plate from the company that you're going to buy your pads from.

Assuming the company has their ducks in a row there won't be any attachment issues.

Also, not sure if it would apply to you but hooks wear out.

Hope that helps...

Thanks Mike!! I've been a customer for a couple of years now, and watch all your YouTube videos. I really like your site / company.

Guess I need to either order some Maguires pads or a Lake Country backing plate. Which would you recommend?

My LC, and Megs plates seem to have similar looking, small hooks, but the LC plates seem to grip a lot harder.

Lake Country Pads will give you a lot of variety, while the Meguiar's pad system is nice and small.

Hi, welcome to AutoGeekOnline!

Your best bet is to match up the backing plate/pads from the same manufacturer. I.e Lake Country plate & Pads or Meguiar's plate & pads.
