5in backing plate with 5.5in Lake Country pads

This picture just looks funny to me. I don't know whether it is made to look like this or what but it just looks funky to me. Anyone else have this combo?

I never really had it wrinkle up though. Are you using a lot of pressure?

I was pushing slightly hard yes and using a soft white pad. And is this usual for a lot of setups? Any benefits?

that's the cookie cutter effect (backing plate digging in) and will happen if the backing plate is smaller than the hook & loop when you apply pressure (more obvious and prone to happen with softer pads). pick up some pads that have recessed hook & loop from the edge which will have better/snug fit...

Already bought about 150 dollars worth in pads. No point now. It's not the worst. Polishes the paint just as good as it would otherwise.

There's never a problem.

I think the horror stories you may have read are referring to are the HF pads.. The problem with using those pads with the supplied backing plate is that the velcro doesn't extend all the way to the end of the pad, leaving the backing plate to be able to dig into the naked foam corners of the pad, resulting in disintegration.

As far as the Lake Country backing plate/pad setup there's no worries. It works perfectly.👍🏽

You're good. I don't push down that hard on my machine though. Just a personal technique discrepancy.

Anyone using that set up, with that technique will experience the pad wrinkling. I don't see any benefit to using enough pressure to crush a pad, but again, that's just me. If it works for you, then that's all there is to it.
