On badly beaten headlights would it be ok for me to start at 1000 grit? If so what increments should I work up from there? Also would I start dry sanding or wet sand all the way thru?

If they are really bad I'll go down to 400g or 600grit. Follow up in 200 grit increments, or whatever the next available grit is. They start stepping up by 500g around 1000grit for some brands.

I do not like dry sanding at any grit although many do the lower grits dry.

Being how expensive it is to get the 3 inch discs in various grits. Do you have a suggestion of how many I should grab just to get a like 5 sets done before I have to get more?

I've been following the Meguiar's guideline, which is of course least aggressive first so you only drop down as far as you need to, but 500 Sanding Disc (Dry), 800 Sanding Disc (Dry), 1000 Foam Finishing Disc (Damp), 3000 Foam Finishing Disc (Damp). Then I have been following that with 5000 Trizact, damp, and right to polish.
