I have the GG6 (hd version - 25' cord) and really like it. Its a good all purpose DA to use on paint, carpet, leather, etc. It's done everything I've expected of it. Yes it would be nice to have a rupes or flex (or even Griot Boss) but you have to make a decision on what you're using it for.
Ex: Is it for hobby or daily driver? Is it for professional or semi-pro (few $$ on a weekend)?

I have the PC7424XP and have used it for many detailings. That being said, the GG6 is more powerful and can correct faster than the PC. Additionally, it has a lifetime warranty. I have no need to get another DA, however, since this is your 1st venture, I would lean to the GG6. The backing plates and pads are generally the same for both so the extras are on the same playing field. It is just the DA's are different.

Have you guys noticed that the 7424 is a lot quieter than the GG6??
I just purchased the GG6 and I feel that it's pretty loud.

Can I use my backing plate from my GG6 with lake country or chemical guys pads?

Yes, as long as they're the right size.

Yes that should not be an issue. The PC and GG6 basically share the same BP as well as Pads from Lake Country of Chemical Guys which are basically Buff and Shine clones. Someone mentioned if the PC7424 XP is quieter than the GG6. I do not know, however, I can tell you the PC7424 is much quieter than my Flex 3401.
