2015 Tornado Red Golf Mk7 SV came in to get some 'swirls' corrected. Upon inspecting the car with the owner I noticed what looked like sanding marks and he confirmed that the front drivers side fender had been resprayed, he bought the car like that 2nd hand from VW. The sanding marks ran over onto the door below the mirror, aswell as onto the bonnet, actually almost halfway across ( more pics about that later ). Just for interest sake, the milleage on the car now sits at 13k km's.

I started out with wheel & wheelarch clean, followed by multistage wash & dry & decontamination.

Only 2 pics of that

I noted that the car had been "polished" by someone else before myself. Not sure if the bodyshop who did repairs polished the entire vehicle, or maybe the dealership when selling the car, but I found traces of poor workmanship.

Paint Correction
Decided I would start with the resprayed fender. Paint readings were healthy ( pretty OEM spec, 110-120 um ). Combo used here was FG400 on Orange medium cutting pads

Next up was the bonnet. This is where things got a little weird. Strangely enough I couldn't find any telltale signs of respray, but paint thickness on the entire bonnet was sitting between 95-105 um. :fear: Although only the drivers side had signs of sanding marks

In direct sunlight you can actually see that this was sanding marks

After 8 passes of FG400 on medium cutting pads I had this

The bonnet isn't working with me so I get back to the drawing board. At this stage an uneducated person might think why not another 8 passes on the same combo and be done ?? Well simply because the entire car will get a PF2300 on medium cutting pads combo ( test spots done before I started with the resprayed fender ), so after 2x FG400 passes the bonnet might end up looking hazy compared to the rest of the car, unless I follow up with PF2300. The paint on the bonnet is already thinner than most of the car, so continuing to polish away might remove way more clearcoat than I am comfortable with on a car that only has 13k km's on :fear: In the end, I decided to go for another FG400 + orange pad combo, but this time doing only 5 passes.

Next up I finished the bonnet off with 6 passes on PF2300 and Green polishing pads. After this step the paint thickness on the bonnet dropped down to 85-90 um

Passenger door test spot
Here is my test spot on the other side of the vehicle from where the issues were. This is now PF2300 on Orange pads

Sorry they not the greatest pics ever

After paint correction I followed up with Collinite #845 on white buffing pads. Afterwards wheel arches & tires had been treated, windows cleaned etc. Here are the final pics after the detail
