Hey everyone,
I had my 1997 z71 painted almost 2 years ago. Throughout these two years, I have tried numerous waxes and what ever wax I use, the paint still gets mud stains under the paint surface. The stains buff off fairly easy with my porter cable, but always come back every time mud or clay is thrown on up on the truck body. I have not tried a sealant yet, and was wondering if this could possibly fix my problem. Any help would be great.
Thanks!
-Matt

I'm not sure what you really mean by "under" the paint, but a sealant isn't going to be significantly different in its ability to protect the paint, in the macro sense you are talking about.

When I mean under the paint, I mean the only way I can remove the stains is a polishing compound with a high speed buffer. Water and car wash do not remove it.

IMO you may want to try a coating instead of a sealant or wax. I use a sealant and top off with a wax, I do not know if that will do the trick, however, a coating would probably be your best choice. As for which one...I could not tell you but PBMG has a plethora of choices.

Sorry for not being too much help as I have never experienced your situation.

Have you tried Collinite paste waxes viz. 476 or 915? Had the same issue with the Landcruiser after a trip to the Kruger Park here in Africa where the mud/sand marks weren't coming off with a wash or even an AIO by hand didn't help. Had to use a polish by machine to remedy it, subsequently WGDGPS 3.0 topped with 915 the next trip and no issues, just washed off.

Matt - How does the mud penetrate the paint? You must have some super strong chemicals in your mud to penetrate the paint-clear coat surface.

It has actually been mud and clay. I live in Florida also in a very low lying area. If I shine a light on my paint at night, you can see the mud stains etched under the paint line.

I live in Florida

Drive it over to Autogeek and let them look at it, because most of us can't figure out what you are talking about.

From what I make from this the paint/clear is staining ( much like white when it gets those brown spots) and it requires buffing/compounding to remove.
