Before and After - What you learn to do in our Detailing 101 Class

Below are some pictures showing what you will learn how to do at Autogeek's Detailing 101 Classes...

You can use the skill you learn to restore a show car finish on your own cars or start a part time detailing business and earn a few dollars restoring a show car finish for fellow car enthusiasts...

Here's our demo car, Rob's 2006 Mustang GT Convertible

Rob purchased this from a local dealership withe the DISO already installed at no extra charge.

DISO = Dealer Installed Swirl Option

Here's a few shots taken in the sun. Note how the swirls in the paint closest to the windshield have an almost floating or 3D effect, this is where the term hologram comes from in the context of talking about swirls instilled by a rotary buffer.

Here's a section of the above photo cropped out and in full size...

Mustangs are beautiful cars but not when the paint shimmers with swirls... the paint is supposed to shimmer with shine....

Here's the same car but now were use the flash from our camera to reveal the horrendous swirls...

I don't think I've ever seen a car so swirled out by the mis-use of a rotary buffer...

The zillions of swirls in the clear layer make the paint look hazy and blocks your view of the black paint under the clear top coat.

In this shot we've actually only buffed out just the passenger side of the hood... after getting some before and after shots we then buffed out the driver's side.

    Here are the end results...

And here's Rob, the happy owner in his swirl free black Mustang...

Re: Detailing 101- Machine Polishing - Saturday January 29th

For those, "on the fence" about attending this class...I went to the last class it is was great. It is one place to try a variety of polishing tools (PC, Griot's, & Flex) and products (Meguiar's, Menzerna, Mother's, Optimum). The information Mike provided was good stuff, but trying the various machines & products was THE most helpful. To buy these things would cost a few bills, but at AutoGeek, it's all there. For you guys & girls up north, it's in Florida! ('nuff said). It's worth the $$.

best suggestion for preventing these kinds of markings from a rotary? is a DA safer?

I watched Mike's videos saying to press about 50% and do 6 passes up and down and side to side for best reults

Best suggestion to prevent the rotary buffer induced swirls in the black Mustang is to get head knowledge and hands-on training and that's what we provide in our Detailing 102 Class.

Besides knowledge and training, then getting experience by practicing on cars that are not important to anyone until you increase your comfort level with the rotary buffer and your skill level so that you feel comfortable working on something that is important to someone.

The DA is safer but it's comparing apples to oranges.

This is a thread about the classes, for more questions on how-to use tools, maybe post them to the Auto Detailing 101 forum group.

The pictures used in this thread came from this article

DISO = The Dealership Installed Swirl Option

The point I was trying to get across by including them in this thread is that if you attend the Detailing 101 Class you will learn,

    • How to not put those types of swirls into the paint in the first place.

    • If you have those types of swirls, we'll show you how to remove them.

We'll also have the new 3M Rotary Buffer at both classes for people to check out... might even have a few more surprises...

The 3M Electric Variable Speed Rotary Polisher balances speed and power with operator comfort. Remove scratches, swirls, oxidation and more with precision and control. The 3M Electric Variable Speed Rotary Polisher has a powerful 11 amp motor with 37.5% more power than 8 amp polishers. Superior construction and user-friendly features make the 3M Electric Variable Speed Rotary Polisher a true professional grade polisher.
