Re: Training Cars for the February Detailing Class

Mike, might I ask how you choose the cars for the training classes? What's involved? Does a trainee ever bring their own car in to have it worked on during the class?

Great question. Thank you for asking.

Generally I look for LARGE vehicles in BAD shape.

Large vehicles - This means big but not too large, I don't want any Suburbans, Expeditions, etc. I also can't use cars that are too small, like Miatas etc. I need cars that provide plenty of REAL-ESTATE for people to work on. My classes are HANDS-ON, not butts on chairs classes.

Bad Condition - This means they have swirls and need to be clayed. I can't take cars that have clearcoat failure because NO ONE can fix clearcoat failure. Also no cars that have dents or body damage - looks wrong in pictures.

I have MORE pictures of MORE cars and MORE people in my classes than any other instructor on Planet Earth. The threads I create really do a good job of showing the size I need.

I have used student's cars in the past - if they fit the above description then we can use it.

I also use student's RENTAL CARS for the wetsanding class and engine detailing.

Are you attending the February class?

What do you want to bring?

As much as I would love to take a class, travel to Florida is not in the cards for me right now. But if it was I would drive my 2015 S60 down if it could get the pro treatment.
