Paperback book - How To Detail Boats With Marine 31 by Mike Phillips

Paperback book - How To Detail Boats With Marine 31 by Mike Phillips

It's no coincidence that car guys also tend to be boat guys!

The two hobbies go together well when it comes to having fun and also when it comes to detailing and maintaining both cars and boats.

This how to book contains more in-depth information on boat detailing than any other book ever written on this topic. This is without a doubt the most complete and information rich how-to book I've ever written. (I have 5 paperback how-to books in print and 3 ebooks available).

This paperback book on how to detail boats goes over every surface of a boat both inside and out. It also covers every conceivable condition a boat is in with specific steps for correction.

    It covers all these tools,

    Flex 3401
    Flex PE14
    RUPES BigFoot 21
    RUPES BigFoot Duetto
    RUPES TA50
    Cyclo polisher
    Porter Cable 7424XP
    DeWALT 849X
    Makita 9237CX2
    Griot's Garage 6" DA Polisher
    3M Air DA Sander

    Working by hand
I know most people start out working by hand so I included hand techniques for every topic.

Plus all the pads, brushes and sanding discs to use with the above tool.

Instead of typing out all the topics covered in this book I've simply taken pictures of the index which shows you just how in-depth this how to book truly is...

Many of the topics covered also apply to car detailing so it's a valuable resource even if you don't yet own a boat.

If you're familiar with my writing style in the forum world you'll find the same style of writing in all my how-to books. That is I explain in simple terms how to perform a process plus why you're performing it and it's a combination of including both types of information that helps you to do the best work possible.

In this brand new how-to book I strongly recommend a number of products, tools and pads for detailing boats.

When it comes to the rotary buffer category I recommend the FLEX PE14 for a number of reasons.

It's quiet - you can listen to the radio and actually hear it.

    It's lightweight.
This is important when you understand most of the boat you'll be holding the polisher up using your forearm muscles.

    It's compact in size
Perfect for getting into the tight areas.

    Low RPM
It offers a low of 400 RPM which is also great for doing surgical work around cleats and other components on a boat.

    Well built
The extreme quality that goes into this German engineered tool isn't found in any other rotary buffer.

If you use the rotary buffer a lot you now how much more work it is to man handle as compared to any other orbital polisher. Do yourself a favor and make the work easier on you. Get a FLEX PE14

just purchased a 3401 for an oxidized boat.
also ordered 7in foamed wool pads, and heavy oxidation cleaner by marine 31
    would this combo work well?

Wasn't sure how many pads for boat, but ordered 3 and also 1 MF/wool hybrid pad to try

This has to be the most underrated post I've ever seen on here... I say that because I remember looking through the pics of the index a while back when I was up against this 28' boat.

I learned quite a bit just from studying the index.. I can only imagine how much better my experience would've been having the entire book + a Flex/rotary. I still managed great results using my G21 with a steady effort.
    Thanks Mike!👍🏽

If the oxidation isn't too bad then it will work. The LC Purple Foamed Wool pads are good since they bring FIBERS into the cutting equation along with the abrasives in the cleaner/wax but if the oxidation is really bad then a NORMAL wool cutting pad like you would use on a rotary buffer and like I show in the book would last longer and cut better and faster.

Buffing out oxidized boats really PUNISHES pads so a really stout pad tends to take the punishment better.

That might get it... watch out for generating too much heat. When boats are badly oxidized the normal reaction by "us" is to have to PUSH HARDER with our polisher to cut the oxidation off the hull. Pushing over time creates heat and heat will cause de-lamination between the pad and the velcro backing. This will be the weak link with the PFWs.

Did you also get a copy of the boat detailing book?

Nice looking finish on the gel-coat boat!

Sorry to say, at this time my boat detailing book has been discontinued.

Mike Phillips? How To Detail Boats With Marine 31

I wrote it to be the training manual for the boat class and the closest thing to actually taking the boat detailing class.

Just to note - I've been asked a lot lately about the ANNUAL boat detailing class that is ALWAYS in February.

At this time there is no Autogeek.com store page to sign-up for the February 2021 Boat Detailing Class

Detailing Classes, Florida Detailing Classes, learn how to detail

When I return to work after my vacation time off I'll work with our web department to get up a registration page so you can sign-up.

This is the MOST hands-on boat detailing class available on Planet Earth. In FACT - if you look for photo documentation showing ANY other boat class or the HISTORY of any other boat class you will not find any. When I say

    Photo Documentation

I mean pictures showing people working on actual boats. Not sitting in chairs. Finding any pictures of a classroom of people working on boats will be a challenge. Finding pictures of people working on boats in a class that goes for YEARS will be impossible.

Nooooooo!!! I’m sorry to see what appeared to be such a comprehensive and valuable tool discontinued (just when I need it most). For my needs, your guide makes economical sense. A class, not so much.
