Microfiber towels losing their feel on one side

    Hi everyone,

I have a bunch of split microfiber towels (such as Rag Co Eagle Edgeless). I’ve noticed a number of them seem to have become less fluffy and the texture has changed, but only on one side of the towel. Have 4-5 towels now where that seems to be the case; one side is super plush and fluffy, other side is a less fluffy and fibers seem a bit more clumped together. Anyone else have something similar? Probably had the towels on average a couple of years, but some less than a year.

I only wash the towels on cold setting, with MF detergent, only with other MF, and dry on extra low as well.

    Thanks for any observations.

I noticed that with some of my Chinese TRC towels. I think it may be heat from dryer? I dry on extra low as well.... Samsung dryer. I dont like to hang dry as they feel rough then.

What im doing different and so far so good is to dry on low for 15 mins and then hang dry. Stays nice and soft and my EE seem to not be having same problem.

    For what it's worth....

Since I switched over to these simple towels, I've been impressed.

12 Pack Forrest Green Edgeless Microfiber Polishing Cloths

I wash them in cold water with themselves using the BF MF Detergent.
I dry them on medium setting
    Inspect them and store them

Real simple process but I follow it strictly so as to prevent them from becoming contaminated.

And they continue to stay clean and feel soft. I trust them.

I also recommend everyone do this,

How, why & when to inspect your microfiber towels when detailing cars

I still believe cold water isn't the way to truly clean anything.

You need heat to break down oils, films and brake dust.
Even in warm weather states there still is all sorts of goop on the roads that gets kicked up in rain.

Pancake syrup on a plate comes off quicker when using a hot water rinse. Cold water might work but 1 simple extended wash isn't going to do much when doing towels that have any muck besides dust

If all I used was cold temperatures for every stage of microfiber cleaning I surely would soak my towels for days in an APC or degreaser solution and wring out by hand.
As it stands I still soak ALL my towels that have any hint of dirt on them.

Since I have been using this approach my towels look and feel way better.

I have never had them degrade on only one side. Have had some that after many years of use lose some of there fluff but still useable. I would recommend using some “dryer balls” when you dry them though. They work for me.

Dryer balls... never thought of that. Good idea.

I agree. Our washing machine at work is not hooked up to a hot water heater; if it were, I would wash all our microfiber towels on the hot water setting.

Here's what I know, when my hands are really dirty, like after removing an old starter motor out of an old Ford Truck, like I show here,

Review: Dirt Cop Hand and Surface Towels by Mike Phillips

While I can wash my hands in cold water, warm and hot water will help me to get the decade old grease and sludge out of the pores of my skin better than cold water.

I have the same problem with the Edge less blues (old version). Since they are reasonably priced, I just donate them to my friends and hopefully they clean their rides PROPERLY. I have the new TRC Edge less 500's in Red. Don't get RED....LOL turns everything PINK after 1st wash.....my mistake....LOL.

I have a few left and I use them to clean the wheels. If worse comes to worse...just donate or throw away.

But IMO replacing the older MF towels is a good thing especially when they are on SALE at AGO!

    KEEP ON ROCKING!
