I think the metallic flake def helps hide defects compared to plain black which is what I have.

It takes me 5 hours just to do the prep wash and clay process to get ready for correction.

Our old friend Ronkh's (RIP) White Ray for a new Vette sure looked pretty, I'll say that.

The Carbon Fiber bits and pieces stood out nicely in stark contrast, and like I mentioned earlier with such a color scheme, the wheels stand out, and the white color draws attention to them, even when wheels might possibly be black in color.

On the newer Vettes, I'm also a sucker for that darker red metallic that looks like a candy apple Brandywine. The anniversary Vettes around 2003-2004 come to mind.

I had a black car and I OBSESSED over it. And it was garage-kept.
I don't think I could do it again.

From the perspective of other people out there who notice light swirl marks, dirt, film, etc., is getting a car in black just a constant challenge? Any particular tips to maintaining the paint (beyond the usual best practices)?

    Thanks!

I say go for it!! Black is a my personal favorite color. Just to let you know Black isn’t a color it’s a full time job.. being parked outside means you’ll have to pay more attention to the condition of your paint due to: Bird droppings, tree sap, kids playing, water spots.
There are some new Products from Maguires like 𝗛𝘆𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗟𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗱 𝗪𝗮𝘅 for one. But whatever color you get it’s a labor of love to your car.
    Drive clean.

This is true. If you love working on your car you will probably love to work on it in any color. But I wouldn't know because the black car I have now is the only vehicle I've detailed. Late bloomer and I used to drive cars that weren't worth detailing I guess. IDK.

I had a silver car for 15 years before this one and I probably washed it 3 times. It's almost like I was a different person.

Sometimes I look back at those times with great fondness...as does my credit card.

Get a jet black and do a full vehicle PPF wrap on it. Self healing film will help keep it pretty much 100% swirl free, especially if you hand wash it. Best of both worlds.
