Staying on top of things and being careful is the key to keeping a black car looking good. It really isn't that hard.

I'm now on my second black metallic car. Metallic paint will hide a few sins, but not many.

Adjusting my wash techniques and tools made the biggest improvement in keeping my black cars looking good for a long time. If you use only clean, soft media to wash and dry the car and pay attention to not scrub the surface, you'll go a long way to preserving the look of the paint and keeping it swirl free. Also, keeping the paint well protected is a huge help as well. I've found that keeping the car sealed or coated often keeps the car cleaner over time and makes washing much easier as well.

Re: Thinking of getting a black car, that crazy?

I owned a black SS Camaro for 4 years and I will never do it again. In my opinion, the OCD obsession completely overtakes the joy of driving and enjoying the car. I spent every moment worrying about the dust, pollen and swirl marks. I was sad to sell the car but I am a much happier person without it, lol.

I still have a black car that basically just sits in the garage. Ownership can indeed be unenjoyable

If you use a quik detailer or waterless wash every 1-2 days it shouldn’t take that long, right?

THIS RIGHT HERE! I had a black ‘91 300ZX, loved that friggin car but I was so worried about swirls, pollen, bird poop etching the paint and it robbed the joy out of taking it out. I know it sounds ridiculous but it was almost too stressful to drive it lol. I worked in a detail shop at that time, about 19 years ago and no lie, I washed and waxed it every day! Those were the days before all of the detail sprays, spray waxes so it was a friggin chore. I’d detail all day, go home and pull it in the garage and get back to work lol. But man, it looked amazing! Wow I miss that car lol.

I was never Geek level detailer till this F’in b!tc#! I am in no way OCD but it sucks to wash/detail your baby in the summer only to be dust covered 4 hours later. You will notice EVERY tiny scratch or Nick.

I waterless or rinseless wash 2–4 times in spring/summer and 1 a week winter/fall. I will never buy a black car again (hopefully). Everyone else will love it though.

If your going to do black I would do metallic if it’s a heavy metallic. The Ford shadow black is metallic but you’d never know it.

On the same note I’m considering a new vette and I do feel with all the black trim black would hide it better. Theirs a ton of it and I don’t know if the carbon fiber is real or worth it....
