Re: Please Recommend An ONR Substitute

If you wanna leave some gloss behind , Griots wash and wax rinseless, Ech20. Wasn’t a fan. Have a half used 16oz bottle just chillin on shelf.

Leave it clean to let the LSP shine, Griots brilliant finish rinseless over N-914 although both good.

While the rinseless feature will be used less, I really liked the appeal of the multiple uses for ONR.

    Hi Rob,

Wolfgang Uber Rinseless Wash can be diluted to make both a quick detailer and a clay lube. Also a rinseless wash, waterless wash and drying aid.

Here's my review from 2015 - don't click on the link to see my review of the product, click on the link to see the car I washed for the review. You'll probably recognize it.

    This.

It’s so versatile and effective. I used it for a few years then switched to ONR to see what all of the noise was about, but now I’m switching back as soon as the ONR is gone. ONR isn’t terrible, but it doesn’t seem to have quite the amount of lubricity as Wolfgang Uber. I use Wolfgang at the waterless dilution as a pretreat for dirty panels and the wheels. I even use it at the waterless dilution for general detailing because it seems to leave such a nice shine. I’ve also used it as a lubricant for synthetic clay barring.

WOW, thanks for all the replies guys !!!

After reading up on all the suggestions, I've decided to give both the Uber and the N-914 a spin. Each had some interesting features/traits, so what's a few extra bucks to check them out. I also decided to try rinseless washing and am throwing a bunch of Mike's favorite towels on to my order to be used just for that purpose. I already have my PFM's for drying from a previous order.

57 Rambler- What LSP will you be using them over? Just curious.

I started out with ONR (both varieties) then picked up Wolfgang Uber as it was the forum favorite at the time. Since then I’ve also added N-914, and both Griot’s options.

If I was using a coating, I’d probably stick with the 914 to let the coating do it’s thing.

My Thoughts on the others -
Uber is nice, leaves a nice gloss, but I swear it collects dust quicker than other options.

The ONR W&W I should dig out and try again as I think I was trying it in colder weather, but it was prone to streaking (likely user error).

The new Griot’s Brilliant Finish Rinseless (leaves nothing behind option) works really well as a rinseless wash, but per Griot’s is not recommended to be used as a clay lube or QD - you’d be doing your own experimenting.

I’d say my favorite Rinseless/QD/spray wax option is the Griot’s Rinseless Wash and Wax. Can use as Rinseless, Clay Lube, QD/Spray Wax. Nice gloss, great water behavior, and absolutely fool proof. It’s also my go-to for between wash window touch ups due to the water behavior.
