    Re: Gyeon Coating Questions

The durability claims are based on 2 coats according to Jeff at Gyeon. I think Cquartz is the same.

Gyeon says up to 3 coats for Mohs

I’m pretty close to wanting to try Mohs on our van

Edit: Worth noting that there were no bad products in the bunch; the primary attributes that separated them for me may have noting to do with your climate, car usage patterns or maintenance habits. It's all very subjective, leading to the conclusion that there is no 'BEST' coating for everyone...but there is likely a best coating for 'YOU'.

Have watched these vehicles for at least 8 months I have very little doubt that the Mohs will make 12 months. The vehicle it is on had it applied it late February 2017, topped with Cure after application and hasn't been washed by anyone but Mother Nature since.

It still looks very good, remains remarkably clean with no attention. Beading has fallen off a bit on the hood but I'm pretty sure that would return if I washed it.
FWIW, I think I'm gonna bring this truck home tonite give it a strong Gyeon Foam bath, an application of Sonax Fallout Cleaner followed by a wash, Gyeon Prep and then hit it with some Gyeon CanCoat (and maybe Gyeon Booster) just to see how it goes.

Will be interesting to see how it looks/beads/sheets after the Foam, Sonax and Wash.

    Re: Gyeon Coating Questions

I've had Mohs on my car for over a year now, and that includes the Chicago winter. I drive daily into the city, and, frankly, the Eisenhower is one of the dirtiest roads I've driven on in years. It rains frequently during the winter. Salt. Grime. Sand. I haven't once regretted using Mohs on my car. It looks stunning, and now that I feel pretty competent when it comes to washing (esp. rinseless washing), after 1 year, the only swirls -- scratches, really -- were caused by Tesla when I took the car in for service.

There are a few etched water spots, but those are not very noticeable.

I've had areas where the hydrophobicity has failed, and that was when I applied a water spot remover. However, I've been able to boost that with Can Coat. I've really scaled back my topping efforts. I usually wash with a shampoo for a coating or use an SiO2-based wash like Bathe+. I top with TAC Quartz Max/Cure/Reload periodically. It really doesn't need much work.

Next spring I will be doing a correction on the car -- probably Jescar. I'll recoat with Mohs...for sure.

Perfection is attained by slow degrees; it requires the hand of time. (Voltaire)

I can't comment on Prime, but Mohs is very good for scratch resistance; I've been very pleased.

Last night I finally washed the truck I did with Mohs (February 2017) and then topped with CanCoat (and then added Booster just for fun).

Wish CanCoat woulda been around 10 years ago when I was only semi-ocd about cars; what a handy product.
