    Hook and Loop 3in Pads?

Hey guys, I've seen a couple threads here talking about this (I think... I get lost when it comes to this stuff) but wanted to make one of my own.

Is there a cheaper alternative to the Meguiars 3-inch foam backed sanding pads? I'm looking to grab some 800, 1500 and 3000 grit, but not at $20-$30 a box!

I'm also a bit confused about the Meguairs line - why is there a 1000 grit "finishing" disc and a finer 1500 grit "sanding" disc?

    Finishing has foam backing

    Sanding does not

They are used for different things

    Agree with all the above.

Finishing has foam backing so it's not as aggressive compared to no foam backing. It will not cut as aggressive to level the texture as fast.

The sanding ones is exactly as it says. It cuts and levels the paint surface more aggressive because there is no foam backing so it's thinner, and more energy is transferred directly.

So to make the headlights clearer (after removing oxidation), using a 1000 grit finishing disc would he better than a 1500 grit sanding disc?

Thanks for the info guys - huge, huge help as always! Glad to have some experience on my side!

Any resources on cheaper discs? Those prices (for a small use) are pretty steep!

At 1000 grit you could use either on headlights, but the finishing discs are much more expensive
