Need buffing help

Hello again AGO. I've got another question! So we do a fair amount of buff work in my shop, but I don't think we are getting the results we should be. I suppose I'll start at the beginning.

1. We have two rotary buffers, both from CP with 6 inch backing plates. We use 3m pads. I'm not even sure what kind, as all the wording has been worn off. One is a wool cutting pad, and then I have two black foam pads, again, with the wording worn off. If I had to guess I'd say these pads are at least a few years old. They are dingy, tattered, and starting to lose the velcro-ness when attaching to the backing plate. So I'm guessing it's time for new pads.

2. I'm not sure what kind of pads I need to get. We use an auto butler roll over machine for our wax and polish application, so I'm really just looking for a setup that will help us remove more scratches and swirls. We currently use 3M 108, 208, and 308 polishes. I'm open to changing that, too.

3. If you need anymore information please let me know, but hopefully I got everything.

Re: Need buffing help

Upgrade to some new wool and foam buffing pads and also polishes...

If you need a compound, try the Meguiar's M105.

For polishes check out either Optimum or Menzerna.

Check out the before and after pictures in the below thread to see Menzerna in action.

There are links to the products in all of my threads...

We carry lots of very good quality foam pads... to keep it simple look at the 6.5" flat pads form Lake Country or the 7" Softbuff pads from Meguiar's.
