    Backing Plate Question

    Hi Everyone

First post on this forum, I am relatively new to Buffers and Polishers.

I recently purchased a Griot's BOSS 21 as well as the Griot's 3" Random Orbital

I am currently looking at some different pads. I am guessing that a manufacturer's pad will mate best with a backing plate from the same company.

Both of the buffers that I purchased come with Griot's backing plates. My question is, will the Griot's backing plates work with Pads made by other companies (i.e. Lake Country) or do I have to buy backing plates that specifically match the manufacturer of the pads (i.e. Lake country Pads with Lake country backing plates).

I know this is a very basic beginners quesion but your help would be greatly appreciated, cheers

    Re: Backing Plate Question

Welcome to the forum. The 21 comes with a 6" backing plate and the Griot comes with a 3" backing plate. Any pad with a Velcro backing will work, just get the right size.

    Re: Backing Plate Question

    Welcome!

As I understand it, there are 2 backing plates available for both Boss 15-21 DAs, either 6" and also 5".

With the 5" Backing Plate, you can use the various brands you choose in 5-1/2" size.

And Lake Country has recently introduced the ThinPro Pads in a variety of sizes, of which can fit either machine you now own. Sizes available in the ThinPro Line are 6.5", 5.5", and 3.5".

I bought some of both 5.5" and 3.5" size, very nice quality indeed

    Re: Backing Plate Question

Your Boss 21 has a backing plate setup that will not work with Lake country DA backing plates.
Make sure your Boss 21 squared edge plate aligns properly with the squared edge of the orbital shaft. and use both
the washers it comes with. Once you have that almost any 6" pad can be run.
Unless you opt. for a 5" Boss backing plate and any 5.5" pad, which would be ordered separate.
    Good Luck and Welcome aboard.
    Great machines !
