    F150 hard or soft paint

    Hi everyone,

I have a 2007 f-150 I want to get the swirls out of and polish up.

Are these considered hard or soft paint.

Wondering how aggressive I will have to be.

    Thanks.

IMO it is on the harder side in paint. I have a 2013 Ford Mustang and IMO it is hard paint. In terms of aggressiveness (depending how bad the swirls are), Menzerna FG400 (or equivalent) with a Lake Country (or equivalent) Orange Pad for correcting should be fine.

As for Polishing Menzerna SF4000/4500 (or equivalent) and a White Lake Country White Pad (or equivalent) should be fine for polishing.

This is what I used for my Stang. I am assuming the paint technology hasn't changed that much with Ford.

Assuming you use a DA (PC, GG or Megs or Flex 3401) this should be fine.

IMO your ride will look awesome with that combo.

    Thanks for the input guys.

I'll most likely end up using Ultimate compound and polish or the new microbuff system by nanoskin. Just trying to see what I have in store for me as this will be my first attempt at polishing.

General rule of thumb for me has been Ford has generally hard paint until you get into some of their bolder color tri-stage paints.

The black 06 I did was on the medium side of things.

I have a '13 F150 in tuxedo black and I'd say it's on the softer side.

    Is Ford considered a Ceramic?

Whatever people say about Ford paint, you shouldn't be deciding how aggressive to be without doing a test spot first and deciding then. I know Porsche paint is soft, but I've spent a little over an hour on a test spot to get choose the correct combinations. Test spots are even more important in American paints, as I find their paints to be somewhat varying on hardness depending on different colors and year of the car.

It will give you an idea of what to do, but you should be doing the test spot to do no more clear coat removal than needed.

Interesting. I have a Transit in Panther Black which is the euro name for the same color and it's hard.
