Grits!!!

...no not the food grits, but I would like to start learning how to wet sand so I'm getting ready to pick up some supplies. I know I'll be getting the Meg's sanding block and the 6 pack Meg's unigrit. But which grits should I get? What I plan on doing is picking up a scrap hood and making different scratches to practice wet sanding. What other products should I be looking at? I plan on picking up some M105/205. I already have The Wolfgang Twins, Menz PO85RD and 106FA. For the polishers I have PC7424XP and Flex PE14-2. Thanks in advance guys!

Ok you had me going with the title......... yelled at mrs 07 to make some and she laughed and went to bed.

any-hoo I keep a good assortment of "grits" 800-3000.

the guys with more wetsanding experiance than me will chime in buddy....but for some of the stuff I've done 2000 and 3000 handled the job.

Yeah I guess I just need to stock a good range of grits-lmao! I was looking at the 3M orbital sander but I think I'm jumping WAY too ahead of myself LOL! Looking forward to what others say.

A very good machine but very pricey! you can do the same thing with your pc. Just my .02

I'm sure the right folks will steer ya in the right direction. They always do!

1000, 1500, 2000 and 3000 would be a good start. 105/205 on your flex should work fine. If you want to practice removing rids and orange peel try a wool pad. Before getting sand paper I would get a PTG if you don't already own one.

Thanks for the reply Ron! I hope all is well. I would need a PTG for the low LOL! I'm on a budget...a real TIGHT budget LOL! Is there a universal CC layer thickness? How does one know how much room the have to "play" with? Is there a chart for cc thickness?

Lol right?!?!?! I mean I know all things with detailing comes with time and knowledge. I don't see myself getting to heavy into wet sanding but I would like to one day offer it to my customers or be able to remove deeper scratches that regular compounding won't.
