Will a wetsand and buff do the trick?
Hey guys, new here. I saw a guy on youtube wetsand a scratch with 2k grit and buff it out came out good.
Can I use this technique on my car? It's not a scratch, my cousin scraped a black gate and i have black paint on my fender.
How far do I sand down with out doing damage? What do I buff it with?
Never done this before, dont wanna mess up can u give me a step my step and what to use? The only thing is I dont have a grinder or sander, Il be using a wheel attachment for a drill. Im kind of on a budget.

If thats just black paint, claybar will do the trick
If you wetsand be extra careful around that lip

If its black paint then you wont need to wetsand it. Its just paint transfer and some buffing or clay should do the trick.

Agreed, at worst you can use a compound and remove that by hand

I would absolutely not wetsand that if you have no experience doing that. It's hard to tell from that picture, but if it was a metal grate I'm going to guess that you have a combination of paint transfer, paint removal down to the primer, and paint removal down to the metal.
The lower portion seems to be on the flexible bumper cover, so that won't rust, but the upper portion will. IMO you need to start with a good solventy paint cleaner and get the paint transfer off and see what you have. I'm guessing you are working by hand, I would recommend the Meguiar's Deep Crystal Step 1 if they still make that, if not maybe someone can recommend a Mother's OTC product.
Maybe some of the other members can chime in, the products that I have and would use for that kind of paint transfer are (really old) Meg's #2, DC1, MPPC, and Body Scrub. I know they don't make Body Scrub or MPPC anymore, and #2 has been reformulated a couple of times since I got mine. I guess Poorboy's ProPolish might be good since that's good and solventy.

No. But maybe Flash runs into more gates than I do, or runs into more people that run into gates.

Im going to take another look at it and see if its scratched. I think its just paint . If I use a paint cleaner will that affect the white paint?

Absolutely
I would use a red claybar on that using APC as lube. The APC will eat up your clay, but will speed up the process
A solventy type polish/compound will work to as already stated

There is hardly a day that goes by that I'm not removing "garage door paint" or "yellow pole paint" off someones car
