? Sanding discs assortment?

Hi guys,I have only manually wet sanded a few times up to this point but been looking lately for some discs to graduate to machine. Thing is you have to invest more an I would like to at this point in the sanding discs I keep finding.

Does anyone know where I can find an assorted box... Like 3-5 discs of 3 different grits?

3" and 6" dia. Would be helpful...

This is all I can find... Boxes of 10 discs of one grit per box... Meguiars Unigrit Finishing Discs, paint finishing discs, Meguiars finishing grit discs

I would have to spend like 300$ to buy 6 boxes to get all the grits and sizes I need. I won't use them often enough to justify it at this point. Somewhere over the counter must have options right? OTC or online is fine... Any suggestions?

Re: ? Sanding discs assortment?

Dog, PM me and I will send you some of the 3in discs to try. Just got 50 of each the other day up to 1500 grit.

also, the same place you get the black tuf buf wool pads from has all different kinds of sanding discs that you can buy one at a time. only thing is their shipping is kinda high.

Shoot! I just ordered those tuf bufs last week and should get them any day. I saw the discs but the way the site was setup it was confusing and I gave up on the discs... Just grabbed my tuf bufs and left. Sounds like that site is my best shot to get them single.

Thank you Davey!!

Re: ? Sanding discs assortment?

Sent you a PM as the place I've seen Unigrit discs sold individually is an AG competitor.

Could be if someone just asks that we can put together an assortment pack like we do with the Nikken Finishing papers here..

Meguiars Unigrit Sand Papers 6 Pack Kit - Your Choice!

Choose your weapons! Select eight Meguiars Unigrit Sand Papers to remove orange peel, eliminate runs, or correct scratches. Meguiars Unigrit Sand Papers are available in six "grits". Choose the appropriate individual sheets for the job at hand, and pay one low price.

Could be the request and idea has never come up before?

Re: ? Sanding discs assortment?

Also, for all the members and lurkers that will read this thread into the future, (future typing), the Griot's Garage 3" Mini Polisher works great as a spot repair dampsander...

I love this thing for sanding tight areas, spot repairs or long thin panels.

Even more cool is because it's so light and small... it's REALLY EASY TO CONTROL and this allows you to safely sand right up to and edge as you'll see in some of the pictures form the GTO we sanded down and buffed out at our last Detailing 102 Wetsanding Class.

Dampsanding with 3" Griot's Garage Mini Polisher

Both the Meguiar's Unigrit 3" discs and the 3M Trizact Discs can be used with the Griot's 3" Mini Polisher. Be sure to get the Meguiar's 3" interface pad too so the sanding and finishing discs can conform to curved panels.

Here's a few pictures from our most recent Wetsanding Class, the pictures kind of tell the story...

Wetsanding Class at Autogeek - 1971 GTO - The Black Orange

Orange peel and mottling near the front of the roof line...

Close-up...

Sanded with #1500 in this picture, follow up was #3000

Compounded...

Not perfect but getting there...

Used the PC with 6" sanding disc for the major portion of the roof and rear quarter
panel. About 90% of the orange peel was sanded off so I snagged another 5% to 6%

Finished...

Now where is that machine sanding emoticon? Oh well, the machine buffing emoticon will have to do...

Re: ? Sanding discs assortment?

I can't recommend enough getting the Griot's Garage 3" Mini Polisher for dampsanding projects.

Griot's Garage 3" Mini Polisher

Note: Make sure you get a couple of 3" Interface Pads you want this for contours and curved panels.

Re: ? Sanding discs assortment?

Corey,

Kevin Brown should be able to put together a bunch of different samples for you, both Meguiar's and various Mirka. He's helped me out a few times now when I was in need of some different sanding media.

PM me if you don't know his site yet.

Re: ? Sanding discs assortment?

Corey, let me know what you find out. I could use some 2000, 2500 and 3000 discs, but don't want a ton of each. Maybe 5 to 10 of each. Let me know pls.
