1970 MGB - Extreme Makeover
On Thursday, October 15th, starting at around 5:30pm we will be doing an extreme makeover to a 1970 MGB Roadster. This will be a good example of what we mean when we talk about,
Taking a car's finish to it's maximum potential Before
Most car manufactures switched over to basecoat/clearcoat paint finishes in the early 1980's, that's almost 30 years ago. What this means is we've had 2-3 generations of car guys that have never worked on old single stage paints, which are a completely different type of animal than the paint on today's Honda's and Fords.
Modern clear coats become filled with swirls, they don't really oxidize. I didn't type they don't oxidized, but oxidation isn't really a problem with clear coat finishes,
swirls are the problem.
Single stage paints oxidize. It's fun to take an old oxidized single stage finish and polish it to perfection and the before and after photos are usually very dramatic, much more dramatic than most before-and-after shots removing swirls out of a clear coat.
