SilverGray BMW 530i Using New Process

Ha...another non-black Bimmer...be still my beating heart!

I wanted to try a new process as the finish of this 06 530i was in decent shape "except" for a lot of paint overspray that originated from ??? (your guess is as good as mine). So, break out the clay and do that.

Clay water residue...not to worry though.

Now, I've been an ardent fan and user of Meguiar's #83 for a lot of years, but never tried with with a good compound pad. Most of my prior experience was polishing pads. The dealer just got these new design 3M pads that are curved, waffle pattern and a centering hole, so I hooked one on the Dynabrade.

Put some #83 on the door and wailed away. Actually, I drew the product with too much stuff and the pad loaded up (next time, I'll write thinner LOL)

When I encountered some light scratches, I whipped out some 3M Extra Cut, eliminated the scratches and moved right along.

Nice bumper shot after #83

Following the process, I used 3M Dark Glaze with a new 3M pad (waffle, curved, and centering hole). This process went quickly.

Tomorrow, the car gets a power wash and a coat of #26 mixed with XMT 360 on the pad.

I'll post some finished pics then.

I've actually convinced the dealer to start using 83 with a compound pad more often. It is far cleaner than compounding and finishes well. The pad did the real work.

Nice job man! So Meg's #83 would be like a XMT #3?

Bonifax: I don't know too much about XMT #3. On the #83 bottle, there is a nice abrasive chart and 83 is about centered. Like I said, I used it for years with a polishing pad and now that I've used it with a compound pad on the rotary, I've learned a lot about the product.

silent926: nope, no green 83 for me! It's cream colored and I am a real hack at camera settings. My total knowledge is: turn it on, push the button, transfer the pics to the 'puter.
