S&S: Grease Stain on Alcantara

Client contacted me through one of the local forums. Just had new winter tires put on his S4 and the tire shop left grease stains on the driver's seat.

Pretty bad combo of mechanical grease, light colored fabric and alcantara. Alcantara provides some very specific cleaning instruction with very limited options. For grease the option is Ethyl Alcohol, in this case Everclear 95% grain alcohol gently agitated with a MF towel. This was followed with a Leather Masters Nubuck cloth to even out the fabric.

I honestly didn't have confidence going into this one and made it clear to the owner that some stains just won't come out and this is a tough one. I wanted to try the alcohol before jumping to a more aggressive dry solvent. It worked on the smallest stain so I stuck with it even though it probably took much longer than another product might have. I spent about 2 hours slowly working each stain. Then finished it with the nubuck cloth, these are great for touching up alcantara.

Everclear is a fantastic solvent!

However...
Without jumping through all kinds of state liquor
agency's hoops...including signing a bunch of affidavits...
retail sales of Everclear to the general public are now
prohibited in Ohio. Even having Everclear displayed
on the liquor stores shelves is also prohibited.

Things sure ain't what they used to be.

If I ever make it to Ohio, I'll be sure to bring you a bottle so you don't have to buy the dyed variety. If it makes you feel any better, I can't get 95% in Minnesota, only 75%. I had to purchase it across the border in Wisconsin, fortunately my office is only 29 minutes from the nearest Wisconsin liquor store.

Side note: how come you guys aren't allowed to buy ethanol 95%?

I could purchase it from a hardware store, but it would be denatured alcohol with dye and other stuff to deter ingestion.

Minnesota is funny like that, no 95% alcohol and no liquor sales on Sunday. As such, I need to travel across the border to Wisconsin.

Our governor has made a big deal about these refugees saying that once they are in the country, they could travel to any state, so why prevent them
from settling here. Not sure why the same logic fails for alcohol and fireworks.
