I tend to use a lot of elbow grease when I detail an engine. I spray down the perimeter with foaming degreaser first. I focus on getting just the paint and then I'll also hit anything else that is especially greasy, as long as it is away from the alternator if I haven't covered it already. Then I use focused spray to get those areas clean. Detailing and engine isn't like putting out a fire, so I try not to soak the whole thing. The rest of it gets cleaned by hand with all purpose cleaner, tooth brushes, and paper towels. Then I use CD2 Engine Detailer to give everything a nice shine and call it a day.

I do love a nice engine detail job. It is more fun to do one of these for me than a nice exterior job. There is a lot greater feeling of satisfaction when I see an engine like this transform. I spent way less time on this than I did the paint and it caused me a lot less frustration. lol
