BMW X3 Metallic Black purdy near done!

Most of the "grunt" work is finished on this X3. Had a few serious scratches on the hood that 2500 grit took care of and lots of compounding to remove the sanding marks. Overall, the paint was swirled pretty good with mild scratches here and there.

Here's what I started with appearance-wise:

Also got to try out some tape that has a plastic apron. This worked well for the large plastic bumpers on the X3...did a nice job of keeping splatter off them for the duration of the recon.

Compounding swirls on door panels

One Door finished with 3M Swirl Remover...the other waiting its' turn

Both door panels are "happy"

Finished out with UltraFina today and tomorrow is a coat of #26 and the interior

Gee...only 2 more Black Bimmers in the lineup.

Toto

nice work toto you saved that car! question... ya know how there are menzerna polishes for the ceramic or scratch resistance clear coats, well does the 3m stuff have the same properties? Do all newer BMWs, like this x3, have this scratch resistant clear?

again great work as always

I've got a supply of the Menzerna line: Compound, Intensive Polish, and 106FF, but I haven't had the chance to give them a workout on a BMW. The clear coats on Bimmers range from soft on black cars to pretty hard on the silver and gray colors. Whether they are similar to the Mercedes line of Ceramiclear coats or not is something I'd need to explore.

Maybe I'll give the Menzerna a whirl on a 4.6 X5 (black of course) that's next in line. I'll post info and pics when I do.

Toto

So what's the real deal with all these black bimmers Toto? Black bimmers must sell good or the owner really like black. You are a great detailer Toto. I always love to see your work.
