Talking First time trying out the UDM

So today, I tried out the gifts I received yesterday from Pirex and Meghan. This was used on a repainted Camry, I'll say late 90s. It's my girlfriend's mom's car. It had an awful respray, horrible orange peel all over, and there were spots on the paint that took off tiny pieces of my clay as I was claying the car. Really poor respray .

UDM: Pretty much identical looking to the Porter Cable. It's not too heavy for me, and it doesn't vibrate too much on speed 6. The vibration doesn't bug me at all, but then I haven't used it for an extended period of time yet. I haven't had any problems accidentally bumping the switch so far, but it does feel like it can easily be switched. The pad that comes with the UDM is a nice size, and it has indented lines for the polish to go into. it's a nice pad and I'm glad it's included with the UDM.

CCS pads: I like these pads as well. Too bad they don't come in a 5.5 inch or something below 6. I haven't been able to experiment with the advantage of the CCS technology, but overall these pads are great.

Here is what I started with, white Lake Country CCS pad with XMT 1. I worked it in until it looked translucent on speed 6. It dusted a little, and had a nice working time. I'm not sure how long it took to break down, I'm guessing I took 3-5 minutes. I just worked a small section, 1 ft by 1 ft. All in all, I like this polish, had no problems. I didn't see how much it corrected though. My garage doesn't have great lighting, and I didn't have the car pulled out into the sun yet.

Here's another combo I practiced with. Boy, did XMT3 break down FAST, I was surprised. I used about a nickel size for 1 ft by 1 ft area. I did this on speed 6. I like how this broke down fast, but I haven't used it enough to comment on its correctability.

Since I was pressed for time (my girlfriend had to go home), I was only able to do one pass with each combo. I had fun practicing, and overall I liked how much correction was done. Onto the pictures!

Sorry I wasn't able to take much pictures, since I was pressed for time. I enjoyed my first time on some swirl removal. I'll definitely be looking forward to do this on my Galant I just hope next weekend will be not so busy for me. Thank you Pirex and Meghan for making this all possible!

That sucks that you did not get to do the whole car...I would of felt like a book I read and I am stuck half way... So it looks like I will be getting some CCS pads soon. But how do you like the UDM so far?

I've noticed that you get very good results using XMT 3 and an orange pad and then going back over it with XMT 1 on a white pad. You knock out the big swirls first and then just smooth everything out to a nice, high shine that way. I used XMT 1 on a moderately swirled car and a white pad just to see what it would do, but it left a good amount of swirls behind - but then it's for ultrafine swirls so I didn't really expect it to knock out all the defects.

Have fun with it! You'll be feeling your arms vibrating in your sleep soon enough.

Hey guys I haven't been able to respond till now, the gf hogged the comp (well I let her borrow it, I told myself I can use it anyday so I try not to be selfish!).

2turbos - I feel the same way, stuck in a book after the hook, but I can't read on . I love the UDM so far, it works great. I'm sure the PC is a great machine too, but I love how the UDM can get you started already with the backing plate and polishing pad, AND a bag, so it's a great deal! All you'll need is a polish and more pads

Meghan - Thanks Meghan! I really enjoyed taking these toys in a spin .

Truls - Mother-in-law, hopefully . I'm not sure when I'll be able to touch it again. The people who repsrayed the vehicle love giving some free orange peel . I wish I can take out the orange peel but then the only way that I know of is wet sanding...I'm not ready for that yet .

Nica - THanks for the compliment! I'm not satisfied with how much I did, but then of course I didn't have time to do more passes. I was so excited, I wanted to skip the wash and go straight to polishing! Just kidding haha, but I wanted to speed up the wash process. Me and my gf washed it so it was pretty fast. I think it only took 30 minutes, and I take at least an hour by myself.

zoomzoom_mazda5 - Thanks, it shines but it sucks at giving crisp reflections due to the orange peel! My gf just noticed how she can see the reflections of the clouds on the car . Great detailer, I hope to get that good soon!

Pauly6401 - I didn't wanna use the orange pad yet since the paint is a few months old. I didn't wanna take away much clear coat. I will try the orange pad once I get a chance to polish this car out again . Thanks for the tip though! I will definitely go XMT3 with orange pad then XMT1 with white pad. So far I haven't felt anything funny in my arms. Hopefully I don't feel anything next morning .

alban61 - Thanks I will get a chance tomorrow morning to try and polish the Galant!

Supercharged - I definitely will play around with the UDM, I'm HOOKED! I love this machine . I actually wanted to use the UDM on something around the house cause I couldn't wait for my GF to come over with the car Hahah.
