Huge 2007 Tundra - lots of pics

Hey everyone,

Today's detail was a 2007 Toyota Tundra SR5 with 11,000 miles on it. The owner recently got back from a trip out west to Yellowstone and the truck showed it. The wheel wells were caked with mud and the front end was covered in bugs. This wouldn’t have been bad on a car or small truck but mind you this is a 4 door full sized truck with an 8 foot bed. Huge! My girlfriend and I tag teamed the wash. The front end was soaked in PB Bug Squash and scrubbed with the back of a shmitt. The wheels and wells were scrubbed with Danase Formula D and the wheels were cleaned with Rim Juice. The rest of the massive truck was washed with NXT with a shmitt (me) and LC Ulti-mitt (her).

The paint was in rough shape, for its age. There were a lot of random scratches and I was able to remove some of them. It had light but deep swirls throughout the truck as well. I tried SSR2.5 with a 7.5” VC LC polishing pad but that didn’t satisfy me. I usually condone using an orange pad with SSR2.5 but that’s actually what I used on the whole truck… and I still was able to go straight to LSP!!! I kept the pad clean and everything went smoothly. Sure the paint could have used a pass with SSR1 but there would be little improvement for 1.5 hours of work. I topped the SSR2.5 with Surf City’s Nano Seal. I haven’t used this sealant before but it’s actually a mix of carnauba and polymers, like PB EX. I applied with an LC blue finishing pad with the PC. The results are nice but the sealant was a pain to remove. I let the product sit on the paint for over 3 hours and I could still faintly see the PC marks of where the sealant was applied. I applied it as this as I would any other sealant but it gave me a little trouble. I would have put a ton of elbow grease into it but I decided to do an OCW wipe down instead.

Process:
Wash / Dry
Clay with CM Blue
SSR2.5, LC orange light cut pad, PC, speed 6
Surf City Nano Seal, LC blue finishing pad, PC
OCW by hand
Interior- vacuum, Meg’s #40, Invisible Glass

That is my dream truck... Nautical Metallic Blue, SR5 4x4 Texas Edition. Of course too many mods to mention. They don't deserve a truck like that!! Thank God they have you to save it!

She's a keeper so don't get any ideas Joe .

She likes detailing, especially when we clean her car. I've given her the PC and UDM before but she says it feels like it'll shake out of her hands... she'll stick to interior work, claying and washing. That's fine with me, always good to detail with a friend / family member.

Dust to Glory- I don't think (I hope) it'll get back into that condition. I got the ball rolling and the owner said he'll keep up with it this time around. It is a very nice truck inside and out but about 10 feet too long, . He puts a Harley in the back and tows a travel trailer with it.

Thanks for the comments everyone, it makes a long detail worth it.
