Detailed my new 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Hey guys I had been in the market for a Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Car dealer that I do some details for had been looking at the sales for one for me. Well he found me one and it was a cool black with a ton of flake. I had never seen a color like this and loved it. Well it took me a few days to get the time to detail it since I was doing so many for everyone else.

Well the Jeep turned out great. I have been doing some sample trading with MotorCity Honda and he got me to try OCW which I loved and then talked me into trying DG AW. Well after polishing and sealing the Jeep I decided the next day to put on the DG AW using the method he suggested and man did that metal flake POP! You talk about bling. I am now a proud member of the DG AW following. Man my paint was sooo slick that it almost doesn't seem real.

Well here's a rundown of what I did:

Tires/Wheels: I used my Surf City Garage Beyond Steel wheel cleaner, man do I love this stuff. Only bad thing is I barely made it through the last wheel before I ran out . Have to put some on the list for the next order. Cleaned the wheels and tires with black wheel schmitt. The wheel wells got Megs APC undiluted. Dressed the wheel wells with Stoners More shine and the tires with DP Gloss Tire Gel. I ruined my Megs wheel brush that I loved trying to clean the back of the rims. I knew I would need some ARO which was in the order that was to be delivered the next day so I decided to just mist the wheels with Pinnacle Crystal Mist instead of applying DP Wheel Glaze. Figured no need to use the wheel glaze and then use ARO in a few days on em. The Crystal Mist gave the wheels a real nice glow. Since my Megs brush was ruined I guess I'll have to order an EZ brush that so many of you are raving about.

Wash: The bugs got the Poorboy's Bug Squash with the Pinnacle Safe Scrub. This has to be the best combo going for getting rid of bugs. I washed the Jeep with my AG foam gun with a 50/50 mixture of DP Xtreme Foam and Surf City Pacific Blue wash. Loved the cleaning ability of the SC but it did not foam very well in the foam gun, but the 50/50 mix did an awesome job - cleaning ability and foam . This will be my soap combo for a while. Used a rinse bucket and Cobra Chenille MF mitt. I really like this thing plus it's like washing your car with a fraggle. Dried with a leaf blower and Cobra Guzzler. All door jambs were cleaned with DG #921. This stuff is awesome.

Glass: All glass inside and out was cleaned with Surf City Clearly Better glass cleaner. Applied with a MF and dried with a Cobra WW. This glass cleaner works really well and I have applied it to a smokin hot windshield and it did not streak.

Headlights/Tailights: These all got DP Plex-All. Applied and dried the same as glass.

Exterior Trim: Anyone who has one or has detailed a Grand Cherokee knows there is a lot of Trim. I did all of it: lower trim, side mirrors, door handles, roof rack, and bumpers with Poorboy's Trim Restorer, if you don't have some of this stuff you should. Applied with a foam applicator and wiped down with MF to make sure the shine was even.

Interior: The interior was in great shape when I got it so I just vacuumed out with the shop vac, cleaned with DP Total Interior Cleaner @1:1 and protected with DP Interior Surface Protectant. This combo is da bomb and gives me that clean new look. I cleaned the gauge cluster and radio/bezel with DP Plex-All.

Engine: The engine had already been detailed before I got it.

Paint: Used my old faithful combo on this: XMT 360 applied with a white LC CCS pad and PC followed up by DP Surface Shield with blue LC pad. Each was buffed off with a Cobra MF. I had some Cobra Jr's in the order that would arrive the next day and looked forward to using them as I have never had any before. Well after this combo the paint looked great and felt slick. The next day I decided to use the DG AW and apply it like MotorCity Honda had suggested. I used a white 5.5" pad and my PC. I sprayed a light mist on the pad and then one sweeping spray on each panel. I then used the PC on speed 3 to spread and stepped up to speed 5.5 and buffed it in. I then wiped it down with a Cobra Jr (it had arrived and I loved it). After I finished the paint looked so wet and was as slick as eel snot (sorry only way this southern boy could think to describe it)! If you have not tried this with DG AW you need to give it a try as the results are amazing.

Well here are the before and afters and then at the end are some shots with the AW on it.

The first pic is without AW and the second is with AW. Sun wasn't out the second day but the results with AW are still amazing.

My signature shot, thanks to alban61

Couple of random shots with DG AW

Meghan it was awesome! I wanted to use the Nano Seal on the Jeep but what I have left is already spoken for in details I am to do. Isn't that how it always works customer gets first dibs. I loved all the products I had and finally got to use the Killer Chrome on another detail (I'll have a great 50/50 shot of an aluminum toolbox posted with that S&S). I also loved the inside tech info from Steve with Surf City. He PM'd me several useful tips and hints. Oh yeah and from talking with him I'll be adding the Nano Shine glaze to an order with another bottle of Nano Seal!

bro that is a great looking jeep. If i wasn't on a budget I might want to try some SC stuff... BTW, sent your package on Monday. Enough LS to do 6-7 cars, would look great on your new "BLACK" cherokee

Damn Bro.. I bet that Cherokee NEVER looked that nice!

Glad the AW technique worked for you!

A much wiser man than I passed that technique along to me (RTF).. his exact word were "You have to try it, it will knock you d*ck into the ground".... he wasn't lying!!

Great job on your Jeep! Looks really slick and reflective. That last shot....it looks better than new! Thanks for sharing/passing along the technique with AW. Definitely going to give that a shot. Now later, you'll have to share what you learned about SCG Nano Seal and Glaze combo from Steve at Surf City. I've got that in my shopping cart too!

That looks awesome! That same technique works with Optimum wax also. It "jewels" the surface and provides quite an amazing faceted look.
