DETAILED: Ressurection BMW 5 Series

This was a used BMW 5 Series that was purchased by the uncle of one of my previous clients (a mustang i did a couple months ago)....this was in BAD shape....probably the worst job of dealer "prep" or lack there of I have EVER seen....can't believe there are dealerships out there that allow cars to leave the lot looking like this

....also the entire hood and passenger side of the car had the worst repaint ever.... tons of orange peel and the color match was not very good...they missed spots in a couple places and the paint was left feeling dull and rough....the clearcoat was very cheap and did not come back to life very well even after wet sanding/compounding/polishing.....

Process

Wash - initial wash was done with a quick ONR wash as the car was brought to me "clean" from a tunnel wash place...

Clay -the dealership had obviously clayed the car and left me plenty of marring so no claying was necessary

Interior - the interior smelled of smoke and had cigarette burns...and the leather had to be brought back from the dead....i literally drenched the leather in conditioner and then wrapped them in plastic to rehydrate the leather..the headliner was extracted to get the bulk of the cigarrete smoke smell out of the car...and I used a heavy duty deodorizer to take care of the rest....

Wetsanding - Meguiars 3000 unitgrit in the really bad spots and on the repainted hood and entire passenger side of the car...this paint was bad...

Compounding - Lake Country 8.5 inch 100% wool compounding pad and 3M perfect-it III rubbing compound...and SIP on plastic bumpers and panels...left the paint hazed and with tons of buffing swirls... but it removed all the wetsanding marks and I knew my 106ff was going to take it to a whole new level

Polish - Menzerna Nano Polish PO106ff and a green pad...then followed up with a grey pad....this brought the finish to the best it could be...some of the really deep swirls were left behind as I could not go any more without risk of removing too much paint....but the areas that had the original paint looked amazing...the repainted panels were still dull...but at least all the swirls and marring were removed

LSP - tried out my free jar of xmt180...definitely a great wax....wipe on...let it haze..and buff off leaves you a great high gloss shine and slick surface....definitely a wax worthy of the XMT name...

I almost fainted when I saw the swirls...i believe the dealership used a green brillo pad to wash the car!!!!



The entire car was coverd in DEEP swirls!!!!

Hey orngez, haven't seen you around here. Good to see you again and what a vehicle. That is one swirled up vehicle, the results look good but is that is for pictures? Just wondering you know how I love pictures .

...been busy with my "real" job.....just wash n waxes on vehicles i regularly maintain...i dont really bother taking pics of those as they are already swirl free......i have done 4-5 other major details but those had huge time constraints and pics tend to take up to much time so i didnt take any of those details...when i take pics it tends to add about 30-45 minutes to my details as i go nuts trying to find the best angles and lighting ....it was my day off today so i took my time on this one...i will try and get more pics when i drop it off...

...until then here are a couple to hold you over...these i snapped of another VW i did...came out great and the results were similar to the one I did a write up of a couple weeks ago...however this one needed much more work as it was a couple months older and far more neglected....this one was heading to a VW car meet....dark colored cars always seem to want details....you'll notice i have a new favorite area i like take my pics by....

Looks good bro, yea I can totally understand about the real world keeping you busy. I find I like to detail because it totally helps forget about my real job. Don't get me wrong I love what I do but I enjoy detailing so much that it's scary some times.

I know what you mean about pictures slowing you down too, I take way to many pictures and that's why I tend to do a vehicle in two days hahaha but I'm slowly getting the hand of taking pictures. A friend of mine who is a pro at taking pictures voluntered to hook me up with a camara and beter yet how to use it oh that and next vehicle I detail he's going to come down and take some sweet pictures for me.
