After the long awaited release of the UDM, I got mine in the mail on friday. I was at a detail and my wife called me and said a "huge" box came and I knew then it was my UDM!
I have been using a cyclo for a year now and loved it. But after joining this forum and seeing the PC in action, my aresnal was lacking. Especially after doing a full paint correction on my Jimmy with the Cyclo I knew I needed something with more POWER! So after initial reviews of the UDM vs. PC, I knew what I wanted. So I got home and went straight for the box and opened all my goodies. Upon initial inspection, I was a little worried

After I turned it on for the first time I noticed the orbiting action wasn't that much, if you have seen the cyclo spin it's got a full range of motion. But ok lets keep going. Then I plugged it in.... and holy cow! Cyclo is one speed, 3,000 rpm unloaded. I tested each speed from 1-6 and was very intimidated! But I didn't let that stop me.
The size of the machine was nice, the head fit into my hands like a glove. And weight is about the same as my cyclo, only difference is cyclo all weight is in front, in UDM it's through length of machine. And I don't get the big idea about the cord being too short, to me it was plenty long. To each his own. As far as switch placement, the cyclo has a toggle switch that makes it very easy to turn off/on when needed, to switch panel. The UDM switch you have to search, but im sure once used alot will be no problem, and the speed selector would be better on side of machine so that you can change it without having to stop and look at the butt of the machine. And something that I would take from the cyclo is the handle that goes across the head. I think one could be made since there are two threads on either side of the UDM, i think it would minimize most if not all vibration you feel.
Performace: I used an orange LC pad with 360, speed 5-6 on this truck and all i can say is "holy cow!" It moved along the truck like smooth butter... followd the contours to the "t", and i really didn't have to worry about it buming the head again the the body. The cutting power was phenominal and I didn't seem to bog it down at all, and I put all 185lbs of me into it, yet it still performed like a champion.
In all for me this was a great investment, the UDM will be my correction tool and the Cyclo my finisher. If you on the fence btwn. a pc or udm, go with the udm. It's great!!! And if I left something out or you have ?, I'm more than happy to try and answer them!!! Now on the the DETAIL!!!

Final wipe on interior wheel with RL QD
Windows in/out SIG via cobra WW
