This product is a game changer! - 22ple VX1 Pro Coating

2009 Lexus IS250 - Minor Paint Correction and 22ple Application

I took Friday off of work and was able to complete my weekend detailing project then, so I decided to make my car the weekend project.

I bought this car back in June - it was a 1 owner lease vehicle and was in overall good shape. I did a full paint correction shortly after I bought it, and it still looked great. I was overdue for a new layer of protection and was very intrigued by this new 22ple VX1 Pro (glass) coating. I figured it would be a great test to apply it now and see how it holds up through the upcoming Midwest winter. It claims about 2 years of protection, so I'm very hopeful that it will still be perfect after the winter months.

22ple VX1 Pro Glass coating boasts "an extremely strong protective coating that will leave an incredible layer of gloss simultaneously". Well, they were right about the gloss - no we'll just have to see about the protection. With my relatively soft Lexus paint, I'm hoping this lives up to it's claim of being very scratch resistant as well.

The application of this product was a breeze - far easier than I had anticipated. Simply pour a small amount onto a foam applicator, then apply to a section of the car using straight line motions, wait 3-5 minutes, and it buffs off easier than any product I've ever used. It took me about an hour to coat my entire car. If this product lives up to it's durability claims, then this is truly a game changer in the detailing world. With such ease of use, I can't imagine ever going through the struggles of maintaining my paint any other way.

    Process
    Wash: ONR
    Dry: DI Waffle Weave Microfiber
    Clay: DI Fine Grade Clay
Polish (everything except roof): M205 on Crimson (some spots with black first) via PC7424XP
Polish (roof): M105 on Surbuf, M205 on black, M205 on Crimson via PC7424XP
    Protection: 22ple VX1 Pro Glass Coating (30mL - only used about 70%)
**After waiting 8 hours, I applied a second coat to the hood, roof, and trunk.

*Note: Wheels & Tires were not cleaned at this time*

    Duration: 8 hours

    Before

^So the paint was still in great shape as it had been fully corrected only 5 months ago. It was still extremely glossy

^The paint still had great clarity and depth to it

^ I had to really hunt, but I found a few spots with minor swirls

^ I had to really hunt, but I found a few spots with minor swirls

^Shiny Paint... about to be even shinier

^ Overdue for a new layer of protection anyways

    During

    ^Hood Before

    ^Hood After

    ^Trunk Before

    ^Trunk After

^The roof was in bad shape. It had severely etched water spots that I was unable to correct previously. I made a pretty good improvement this time... Test spot before

    ^Test Spot After

^50/50 shot of roof. Uncorrected (left) vs. Corrected (right)

^50/50 shot of roof. Uncorrected (left) vs. Corrected (right)

    After

^Has a nice wet look to it

    ^Very pleased

    ^My favorite angle

    ^Like a mirror

    ^Roof looks great

    ^Trunk is perfect

    ^Hi!

*I did a water beading test on the hood after the 22ple had cured for 9 hours - it was incredible, the water beaded and rolled right off the hood - very impressed so far!

Great job, that paint looks awesome.

Do you work for CAT, seeing as you're from Peoria and all?

The ease of use is the game changing part. This was easier to apply and remove than anything I've ever used (polish, wax, sealant, etc)... it was truly effortless.

    Very Nice write up...

I have using Menzerna power lock on at least 15 cars in the past 30 days and its VERY easy to apply and take off.

I apply it with my Flex DA and a white LC pad

I remove the Menzerna sealant with a microfiber bonnet on my flex DA

I usually wait at least 45 min to an hour for cure time before removing sealant, Alot of times I apply a 2nd coat the following day, and even 3rd coat the day after that

I top of the Power Lock with Collinite 845 Insulator wax

Thanks for the review of 22ple. The car looks great. Very nice job.

I have read that not only the applicator but all buffing MFs must be trashed.....seems like with CQ you can immediately put the towels in a bucket of APC and then wash ASAP.

Just wondering, can these glass/silica coatings be topper with a 'nuba successfully, or is the like of the wax dramatically shortened like with OptiCoat.

Your work looks excellent. But I still like the look of a wax. I wouldn't mind trying this product as a base if it would work.

^Don't get me wrong, I love my CG Blacklight, BFWD, etc - they are all very easy to apply and to remove, however I was expecting much more work from a product like 22ple, but was very pleasantly surprised with the tremendous ease of use. I guess I would have been better off saying 22ple is as easy, if not easier, to remove than anything I've used before! Thanks!

^ You are correct, it is recommended to discard MF towel and applicators. I'm not sure if immediately treating them with chemicals would clean them enough to reuse. I used 2 towels, 1 for removing the majority of the residue, and the other for the final wipe - only the first towel was "ruined". For me, it is well worth the expense of a $1 applicator and a couple of general purpose MF towels though.

^ Thanks!! I'm sure you would be fine topping it with a wax, I would recommend emailing Todd Cooperider of Esoteric Detailing with any questions as they are the main importer of 22ple. He was extremely quick to respond to all of my initial questions about the product.

Thanks for the info. You mentioned only the first towel was ruined...how do you know?

I ask because I like to use very good quality MFs for buffing (particularly when I have well prepped paint)....so my expense may go up some....but that's all part of the cost.
