Jet black BMW 318i

This car was given to my younger sister from relatives for college. It had a spun engine bearing and was set off to dad's repair shop for an overhaul.

Today was the first day I had a chance to inspect the finish. All I can say is wow! From what I've been told it was left outside for about 8 months when the engine broke down.

It looks OK from a distance

But after closer inspection

What I used:
Wash
CG Citrus wash mixed with APC, Iron-X, and Megs clay
Polish all polishing/waxing was performed with PC 7424XP, although I wish I had a Flex for this job.
Megs M105 with Megs microfiber cutting disc (wiped off with diluted ONR to reduce dusting)
Megs M205 with CG hex-logic orange pad (w/ ONR)
CG EZ Glaze with CG hex-logic white pad
Protection
Blackfire sealant with LC blue pad (wiped off with CG V7)
CG 50-50 wax by hand (wiped off with CG V7)

Iron-x runoff

Wash, ion-x and clay, after final rinse

Re: Jet black BMW 318i

I pulled it in and taped up the car

Heres a better look at the flaws under the lights

I initially was planning to use Megs D300 with its cutting disc but it didnt provide enough cut. I tried M105 with my CG orange pad (my most aggressive foam pad) but it still didnt provide enough cut. So I used my most aggressive pad/compound combo - M105 + Megs microfiber cutting disc.

50/50, sorry not the best pic

Before

After (notice the permanent acid rain(?) etching )

After about 10hrs in 100 degree temps

Please excuse the sloppy wax removal hehe

A few things that I learned today.
-Quick detailer is a must when working with M105/205. I almost forgot how dusty this combo is. I've been spoiled using Megs Microfiber system.
-I tried CG V4 polish/sealant/(whatever else it says in its description) on a test panel with an orange pad right after the M105 and its darn impressive. I ended up using M205 because I wasnt sure if V4 affected LSP. But I couldnt tell the difference between the the V4 and 205
-M105/MF pads will remove sloppy old touch up paint. It will leave the touch up paint in the scratch. Kinda like Dr. Chip
-Acid rain is no joke! lol
-Always follow directions, I used the Megs MF pads at 6k and it ended up pulling it apart.

All-n-all, I correct about 80% of the scratches and swirls. The rest being deep scratches and acid rain etching

Thanks for looking

Re: Jet black BMW 318i

Nice job. I have heard that some of the fisrt batch of the MFCD had some separtion issues with the glue like you had. I you stil have the packing they came in I would give Meguiars a call and see if they can get you new ones.

I personally had two disc do this to me and I followed all instructions and kept my polisher to 4800 opm or around speed 4 and still had this failure. The other ones I had bought recently haven't seen any issues and have used them 4 times.
