| 5000 original miles on 2001 Z06 This was the last vehicle I did on my busy 2 weeks off. I was looking forward to it. I had actually done this car once already, back in 2008. At that time it had only 300 km on the odometer, and now only has 8000 km which is 5,000 miles. Here's the original link: Mint '01 Z06 I was supposed to pull the wheels on this one like I did for the 911. However, the jack points for it are way underneath and the tiny jack I borrowed from my neighbour would not fit underneath. It is equipped with run-flats and has no jack on board. I was then unable to pull the wheels. I was disappointed but did the best I could regardless. Here's the car as it arrived: First up was the wheels. At this point I didn't realize I wouldn't be able to jack it up, so I was doing my usual outside job. IronX, Tarminator, Zep Citrus were all used on the face and barrels.
Here you can see IX doing its thing.
The wells were cleaned with ZC.
The tires were cleaned with Zep Purple. Next up was the washing stages. The car was foamed with a strong mix of DG 901 and Dawn and allowed to dwell. I did emblems, etc while it was dwelling. After that it got washed with a similar wash mix as the foam. Next the car was brought inside wet and was clayed with Elastofoam. It was wiped down with ONR after that.
I did the wheels first. They were sealed with OG by hand with a suede mf. I did my best to coat all sides of the caliper.
For the paint, it had more marks in it than I expected. Typical rock hard GM paint necessitated the use of my TB black wool pad and M105 at about 1800 rpm with my Dyna with a lot of downward force. I then used D300 with a yellow pad followed by M205 and a white pad (B/S pads). The 3 stages did absolute wonders to this paint. After the 205, it was just so wet looking. I was really enjoying seeing the transformation it was making. I did a few touch ups on the paint as well. Well, only 2 in fact. This car had the fewest chips I've ever seen. Guess 8K will do that, LOL.
Here's a shot of the hood getting transformed: |

Richy,
The Z06 came out great and the owner must have been thrilled!
5000 mikes on a 2001 is extremely low. I just turned 17,000 on my 2004 Z06 and I thought I don't drive it much!
Too bad about the owners son though.....

Nice job on the Vette. It looks great and that's amazing that it only has 8k miles.

I'll drive mine upon 4 pieces of 2X10X24 to raise the vehicles up enough in order to allow my jack (usually won't need a low profile)
to go under the lift point(s)...where my "hockey puck(s)" are installed. (The pucks should fit into the jack's 'lifting-cup') Or...I'll sometimes go this route:

Bob | Bob, thank you for that feedback! I knew with the amount of Vette guys on here that I'd get an answer as to what you guys do to rectify this problem. It still turned out pretty damned good, so not that big of a deal. Using the wood is a smart idea though. |
