1995 960 Volvo

So after asking for so much help and doing lots of re-search I have finally semi completed my 1995 960-Volvo. Poor thing has never really been “properly” detailed. Before I joined this place I thought I knew how to detail a vehicle but I quickly learned that what I had done in the past was all wrong….well story short, thanks to all of you guys here I’ve learned to detail properly and I’m still learning.

Washed

I first washed the car using Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo, this stuff works well. No complaints here.

Clayed

Clayed the entire vehicle using Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay and Lube, I think I over did it with the Lube though because I went through an entire 473mL bottle. Better be safe then sorry. I was really happy with the Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay, it grabbed a bunch of contaminants from the paint. Keep in mind that I had never clayed the vehicle.

Polish (Orange Edge 2K pad with XMT #3)

First time ever using any kind of polish and at first I was really worried as to how this was going to turn out. One pass with this stuff and it removed 90% of the scratches/swirls. Very pleased with XMT. The paint had some really bad scratches that were not removed completely but you can hardly see them.

Polish (Blue Edge 2K pad with XMT #1)

This step removed the small scratches that in some areas were still visible. The Blue pad in the Edge 2K system is great, very versatile and you can use it for almost anything. Can’t say enough about the Edge 2K system, very pleased with the pads. NOTE: Do not apply to much pressure to the pads, as I learned very quickly that I was applying way to much pressure and I caused so much stress on the pad that I ruined one side of the blue pad.

Glaze (applied by hand XMT finishing Glaze)

When I first started to apply the Glaze I was going way to think, no need to apply so thick nice and thin is much better. I applied it by hand because I personally like feeling every curve, corner of the vehicle getting covered. This stuff not only smells good but it makes the paint look wet and gives it nice depth. Someone best described the Glaze the following way “after scrubbing the paint so much the Glaze is like putting lotion on it”. That statement is so true…wish I could remember who said it though.

Wax (one coat applied/removed by hand with Paste Souveran)

This wax is amazing, I’ve never used it till now and let me tell you it gives such a nice depth and makes the paint look so wet. Well worth the money if you ask me. I was a big fan of Mothers waxes but after using this Souveran I’ll never go back. The smell it has is really good too, the entire garage smelled of this stuff. As I was leaving the garage my neighbor was passing by and cot the smell and wanted to know what I had in the garage. When he smelled the wax he said “..why are you putting in your car, get some bread and spread it..” hahahaha. Neighbor has a red Mercedes SLK, he wants me to detail it for him and to put a few coats of Souveran on it. Oh yea, for removing I used the blue indigo towels (I think that’s what they are called, I thought they were “miracle” towels but I think that was just me being amazed by them lol) and these towels are really nice. Although, I didn’t try my Jr towel.

Tires (Meguiers Gold Class Endurance)

I’m quite pleased with how this stuff leaves the tires, what I’m really pleased with that it doesn’t flick the gel all over the car. Then again, this vehicle spends majority of it’s time in the garage, maybe once a month I take it out for a drive. I had to charge the battery to take it for a drive today.

Okay now for the pictures, please remember that I have never used a PC nor any polishing/glaze before so the before pictures are a little scary.

Oh..one more thing, since I got over my fear of using the PC I’ve ordered a rotary. I should be receiving my Metabo within a few days. This place is not only addicting but it exponentially expands your potential. I’ll first practice with the rotary on my poor old Jeep, it has so much rust I’m sure some burnt paint marks won’t hurt it. I’ll post pictures of the Jeep later.

Before

Yup a bunch of water spots.
