The guy that put in our counter tops used the PC to do finial polishing on them. You can use a little compound and foam pad just like on the car surface.

I have done a lot of store work including the kitchen in the pictures. Compound will work ok on softer stone like marble but does not do much on harder stone like granite. For stone I use a wet polisher. It is a rotary with a water hookup. You hook a hose up to it and adjust the water to cool off the store. It takes 4" pads with a hole in the center. The water comes out through the hole in the pad. The pads are plastic with small diamond chips in them. They velcro on just like a normal rotary or PC pad. I have pad in grits form 60 to 8500.
