Blue Mustang Using New Festool Rotex

I got a nice chance to try out the new Festool Rotex RO 150 FEQ today. What a great maching (hint-hint Autogeek...you should get one for "evaluation"). It is superbly balanced if that is the right description...it just fits your hand and works great. Used SSR 2.5 in Festool's Rotary Mode until I was satisfied with the work, then pressed a switch to go into random orbit mode...couldn't be more friendly than that.

I used a polish pad and SSR 2.5 followed by a finish pad and XMT Glaze, then Meg's NXT liquid.

what are the stats on this machine ? how many rpm's and how many opm does it do ? I would be very interested in one if I knew this!

edit: only 600 rpm rotary mode? youd get better results by having both tools.. So would you use this tool just for light work ?

And for that blue, I recommend Pinnacle Sig Series II. It is THE wax for lighter blue hues!

ryan: Use GOOGLE !!

as you'll see, it doesn't have the power of a DeWalt or Makita full rotary, but it's a great everyday machine. Also the rotary motion is somewhat "hybrid" in that is has a giggle to it at the same time. What has impressed me a bunch so far is the overall balance and ergonomics of the machine.

If you ever get a chance to try one, it's gonna be tough to pick up the Porter-Cable again.

You've got great before close-ups but you pull back on the subject for the after shots. You're not showing what you've done with your work when using these shots. I mean no offense and the car looks great but depending upon how you use the lighting and camera, for all we know you may not have done anything other than a wash. Your after shots need to as closely as possible duplicate the before shots. I think you're also posting/linking to a product that competes with products sold here on AG. I think it's against the rules.

i think he's trying to get ag to try them out though...they do take on new products once in a while...i dont see a problem with that, personally

i agree though, lets try and get some more shots.

GearHead_1: Thanks for the constructive comments. I have a couple of reasons for the non-closeups on the finished car. 1) When I finished, the daylight wasn't the best and I don't own a tripod. 2) The owner wanted some full car shots for me to mail to him. 3) I've got some closeups of the finished car, but the camera went to flash mode and the metallic paint bounced pretty bad (I am not a very good photographer either).

The reason for posting about the Festool was to hint that AutoGeek might consider getting one for evaluation. I'm a firm believer in promoting the AG line and buying their products (I've purchased the Cyclo kit and tons of products from AF).

I hope that clears up any misunderstandings. You have given me an idea though: take a before closeup, then completely work that area and take an after closeup. Then I could go on to the rest of the car.

thanks foor the spec sheets, it can do 800 more ropm at 6800, but the rotary usage is at 660rpm. I could definately see this maching as a step over the pc for the finishing polish.

TO me, its an excelent DA and has that rotary benefit for a finishing polish I m glad you like your purchase!
