1975 Vinyl Seats - Extreme Makeover

1975 Vinyl Seats - Extreme Makeover

Bought these original 1975 Blazer Seats for an old 2-wheel Drive 1973 Blazer I owned and then later sold the Blazer and bought a 1975 4x4 Jimmy. In the process I did my best to clean up what looks like all the dirt and grime that had accumulated since 1975

Before

Just for fun I placed some painter's tape across a section of the head rest.

The seat on the right has been cleaned using Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner Plus

After cleaning a very wet and generous amount of M40 was applied and worked into the vinyl and then some extra product was applied to gorge the old vinyl with the conditioning agents in the M4016 Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner. The seat was allowed to sit like this for about an hour and occasionally we would work the excess product again over the surface using a simple terry cloth wash rag.

Before and After

Then we cleaned the other seat

Years of dirt, sweat, body oils and probably even some hair creme. Icky!

Moved the chair into the sun for a better shot

Afterwards we cleaned the striped area and treated it as well. We also wiped all the excess M40 off the seats to leave a dry, natural sheen. The seats never actually made it into the truck but at least they were clean for the next guy!

Products Used
Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner Plus - Diluted at 4:1
Meguiar's OSHA Approved Matching Spray Bottle
High Volume Spray Head
Gallon Dispensing Pump
M-4016 Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner
Terry Cloth Wash Rag

Incredible.

I was thinking that the headrest stripe looked kinda sporty though and maybe should have been left there

Looks a lot better. Maybe if anything like that comes your way again you could try M39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner. Works really great on extremly dirty vinyl.
